I remember my mother feather dusting her new 1968 Cadillac Eldorado every day in between washes. She loved that car and did that every day until she died. She took care of pretty much everything after losing everything during WWII. I guess I learned it from her and appreciate what I have so I make an effort to keep things nice.To some the novelty wears off, to others, they cherish their purchase for a long time regardless of 'dings or scratches' I wouldn't group everyone into your thought process just because it's a utilitarian tool. Tools can be cherished and appreciated for a long time.
I'm sure those who buy Bentley's and Rolls Royce's don't think like you, and certainly don't let dents happen as quickly as you. There are some that will treat their Maverick like their 'Bentleys'...I'm sure I will make sure it stays as pristine as new for as long as possible so I won't loose that initial feeling.
