Actually the lower gear set ( higher number) for towing has a more minimal effect on stop and go vs. a more pronounced loss in mpg at highway speeds.

So yes 4K towing effects mileage all the time, but especially on the expressway. If I had to guess, I’d say a difference of likely 1 mpg especially at speeds over 45. And that’s with everything else being stock. Add in increased wind resistance from lifting your truck or increased unsprung weight like adding heavier tires and the effects are even more pronounced
Why at highway speed though. Wouldnt 8th gearbe the same with either configuration?

Wouldn’t larger tires change the tow gear ratio though to effectively offset some of that difference at highway speeds?

The best thing to try is this, if you still have the stock tires/rims, put them back on, put the original air filter in & pick a town/city around 50 or more miles away that you can drive a fairly steady either 60mph or 70ishmph, drive there turn around & drive home, if the fuel economy is still poor, then there is definitely something wrong with the truck. That 1" lift shouldn't make much of a difference. If it was dumping too much fuel into the engine, you would get a check engine light, also does the truck seem to have full power acceleration like members have been reporting here? if not, possible loose connection somewhere in the turbo system? After spending months on this site & can remember 2 members who were having the same issue you are, one with similar changes you have done, one who was completely stock, I don't know if they ever solved their issues. Please don't give up yet, you will be happy when you find the culprit.

No. The larger tires, if someone did the math in relation to diameter and the gear ratio, and came up with the same end “ratio” fuel mileage would be still be negatively impacted by the heavier tire/wheel package.

Different tires, even of the same size can make a large difference. With my 2.0 turbo Audi snow tires of the same size cause a loss of above 2.5 to 3 mpg.

Agreed. Snow tires can make a huge impact. Weight, increased friction, more flex because of softer compounds, more rolling resistance could all be factors with snow tires.

I drive a hybrid Maverick with 3700 miles on her now. 85% hwy driving at or above 80 mph, 5 days a week. My commute is roughly 85 mile's round trip daily. I was averaging at the pump 37.4 to 38 combined which still beat EPA but then I installed my tonneau cover and the engine has broke in and my average is 42 COMBINED in normal mode! I drive this pickup exactly how I've driven all my vehicles and those numbers are outstanding. Sorry to hear about the EB mileage it does suck with gas prices so high.

You really just want to complain, not understand, right? Seems to be a toxic vent rather than a request for assistance, understanding, but alas.

You lifted the truck
You put in the K&N filter and put on bigger tires
You're comparing your mileage to people who drive differently from you, likely in very different weather. Maybe you're even comparing against hybrid drivers' mileage reports.
You don't tell us how much of a lead foot you are
You claim that this includes a decent amount of highway driving and don't do a lot of idling, yet you average ~22.6 mph.
You talk about remote start but that only matters when you hand-calculate your miles driven between stops to the gas it takes to fill up to the same level (first time preferably the same pump clicks off) against the trip odometer for that tank. Has no bearing on the mpg displayed on the dash.
You don't tell us what your Equinox was rated relative to what you got out of it.
You don't tell us if you're driving this Maverick in the same way. Don't even tell us if you're using Sport mode, for instance, which is much less efficient than Eco or even Normal.

You claim it's "BS" that you're not getting ~30 mpg when your driving at best matches the city profile, where it's rated for 22mpg city, vs. 29 mpg highway and 25 mpg combined. Factoring in what you did to the poor truck, winter weather and winter blend gas, and your irrational anger that implies you are not remotely gentle with the throttle, 18mpg is entirely reasonable.
What you said. Everything you said.

And for those thinking about adding a K&N air filter to their Mav, here's a little history from me.

I am a K&N believer; have had them in my various cars for years. Currently have them in my Vette and Ford TransitConnect. In all those vehicles, they seemed to boost acceleration and MPG. But in 2016, I put one in my 2016 Ford F-150 (with the 2.7L Ecoboost turbo) and the K&N did not have similar positive effects, and really screwed up the Autostop. Put one in my 2018 Hyundai Ionic hybrid, and it delivered no positive difference in acceleration or MPG. Put one in my 2019 Ranger (also turbo'ed), and it had similar negative results as the F-150 (no improvement in MPG and a wacked-out Autostop). As such, no K&N going in my Mav. I think that a K&N in turbo'ed and hybrid vehicles messes with all the sensitive airflow and air temperature calibrations.

4k hurts milage? Cuz ratios? I figured for highway it wouldn’t matter since the cruising gears should be unaffected
I'm not understanding how the tow package hurst mileage significantly when you're not towing

I dont even care if I get banned for saying it, go #UCK yourself. Seriously, your response is as worthless as you negative, BS contributing Prick.

Thank you to everyone else who can keep a decent discussion going. I had posted follow up answers to your questions a few pages back. Thanks

There is no free lunch when it comes to MPG or horsepower, change gear ratios something has to give elsewhere. Add lift and larger tires and the deviation from the stock programming could be much worse on a 4K package install than without.

And I quote from actual research:
https://www.autoblog.com/2021/08/16...T3up9L9whob-dLlnAHa7wqFdBvIHtd3KpCPO0jz0GUz0s
”The build sheets and stickers are for Mavericks equipped with either the turbo engine and front-wheel drive, or with all-wheel drive plus the 4K Tow Package. The front-drive version gets 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive and the tow package it gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.”

lol sometimes when you simply speak with confidence even though you haven’t looked anything up people wont just take your word for it. Thanks for nothing champ

Ive had this truck 4 months. I don't drive a lot and I currently have about 2k miles on the odometer.

AWD, 4k tow running 245 65 17s and 1 inch front level lift. K&N drop in filter, no other mods. 89 octane gas used every time. Standard drive mode. I use it for personal transport and dont haul any heavy loads. Tire PSI set to 35.

I live in NW Indiana and do mixed driving of hwy and streets. I drive normally and I'm not a leadfoot. I don't use remote start or sit in traffic. I am getting absolute horseshit mileage. I have not seen 20mpg. I understand the figure may be off a tad with the slightly different tire size but other people with the same truck and mods are claiming 30mpg. WTF gives already? I bought a small truck to save on gas mileage. My V6 equinox was a gas pig and got better mileage. Its one of the reasons I dumped it. With the the gas $ now going through the moon its starting to bother me. I have the money but I didn't buy a "baby truck" to piss money away on gas. I bought this truck to get a few more mpg than the equinox and I was expecting to get at least 22mpg. I understand going up a size in tires may kill 1-2 mpg but come on now. Enough with this BS already. Im tired of the.excuses. Im seeing 17-18mpg tops. Less than 280 miles per tank. I am always putting gas in this truck. I've reset all settings twice to start from scratch to see if that helped and it has not.

Anybody have any ideas what could be going on? I cant be getting 10-12 less than other members with the same truck. Winter gas blend, altitude, driving style/ BS already. 10-11 mpg less than others is NOT normal. Something is wrong here and I'm getting pissed. The biggest reason people buy small trucks to save on gas.

In my 2.0, I've been getting 23.5 to 24 avg around town and 28 on the road. I don't know but maybe the mods have something to do with it.
