No. The transmission ratios are the same. The final ratios in the differential are different. The final drive ratio will be different.
Ya thanks for that. I ended up just looking it up online. I understand now. But the research shows a negligable difference in fuel economy

And I quote from actual research:
https://www.autoblog.com/2021/08/16...T3up9L9whob-dLlnAHa7wqFdBvIHtd3KpCPO0jz0GUz0s
”The build sheets and stickers are for Mavericks equipped with either the turbo engine and front-wheel drive, or with all-wheel drive plus the 4K Tow Package. The front-drive version gets 23 mpg in the city and 30 mpg on the highway. With all-wheel drive and the tow package it gets 22 mpg in the city and 29 mpg on the highway.”

lol sometimes when you simply speak with confidence even though you haven’t looked anything up people wont just take your word for it. Thanks for nothing champ
Go ahead and believe auto blog then. Doesn’t change the fact that the rear gear in the towing package will be less fuel efficient than the standard gear. I’d like to see a Ford release stating the epa mileage is with the optional gear.

we can agree to disagree chump

Better to go to the actual source.

The distinction is between FWD and AWD with a 2.0L ecoboost engine for fuel economy not whether it has a 4k tow package or not. Besides whether the mods are the issue which I do believe that the K & N air filter maybe part of the problem. The gearing will make a difference, More torque = less MPG period. You can change other factors to even out the MPG between AWD builds but you take it out of stock those other factors get magnified even more.

Here is exactly how to find out the gear ratio on any build including how to interpret the VIN number directly from Ford. 4k tow packages all come with 3.81 gear ratio. Non 4k models either a 3.63 or 2.91.

My Lariat 2.0 turbo has averaged 28.9 MPG across the first 1500 miles, "all in". I have not reset the trip odometer since I got it, I always drive in ECO, 60% city driving, interstate speeds around 70'ish. Sorry for anyone having issues, but stock with no alterations in ECO I'm getting damned near 30 MPG, and if I baby'd it I would get 2-3 MPG over 30, IMO. It seems staying with factory settings and options is a good idea if MPG matters to you.

The actual source had the exact same numbers lol

You are totally correct sir. Maybe you grew up, like myself, with SS396 Chevelles, 383 4 speed Road Runners, etc. The good ol' street racing muscle car days, when changing out a 3:08 rear gear ratio to a 4:10 or 4:88 gear had meaning, and you knew WHY they did, cause you knew the effects lower gear ratios had on acceleration and torque. As far as tow packages, they generally feature lower gearing, which means a taller ratio. It's really quite elementry,, the taller the gear (and the ratio) the faster the engine spins. More actual power?? Yes. Will you use more fuel revving the engine higher?? Of course you will. Can you tow more weight,,yes, yes, yes.

Ecoboost AWD with 4K towing:
1600+ miles in 4 weeks of ownership

I had been getting around 26 mpg combined but most of my driving is highway.

This week I was off and did some around town driving and one trip to work via highway.
20.4 mpg

Mods like what you did kill mileage, especially on a turbo 4 banger. Did you keep it stock long enough to see what the mpg was before the mods.

Guys you are being too hard on the OP. Sure he’s got some mods but like about 20 other posts, people with the same mods are still getting much better mileage than him.

And so just to add my .02–My Mav gets HORRIBLE mileage as well. I just rolled over 1000 miles on it, Lariat AWD FX4 4K, only mods are mudflaps, engine cover, roll up tonneau.
I have a 10 mile commute, mixed hwy and city, and my average on my dash is around 19.6. Trip 2 odometer was reset with 16 miles on the truck and it’s overall average is 19.2. On a recent fill up, I actually hand calc’d it at 17.5!!!! I’ve been driving like a grandma as well. I just took a little roadtrip on Thursday, 100 miles round trip, cruise set on 71 on the highway on the way down and cruise set on 79 on the interstate on the way back, I reset my trip odometer before, and the mileage showed 22.8! No reason that shouldn’t have been like at least 26-27, Nebraska is flat.
Hey neighbor! Fellow Nebraskan here and I'm getting pretty solidly 22 mpg city or highway regardless of how I drive...something is definitely whack with your mileage because I've got 245/65/17's with FX4 and Tow package. Maybe a bunch of these left the factory without an alignment? Might explain why folks with lift kits get better mileage....because they get an alignment after installing?

I downloaded the Fuelly app I just keep forgetting to use the darn thing! I figured I would use on my bikes and Maverick.
Just remember you DON'T have to pay for it. It is free. You just have to occasionally hit the button to say continue with free.

You log in online and input your truck make, model, year, engine and photo if you want. Then when you download the app you login to your account and its all there.

Strictly around town, without any highway I am less than 20 mpg. I do normally drive a mix with highway. Overall at 4,200 miles computer indicates 26.1. Most miles are highway. It does pretty well on highway at 65 mph, really BAD at 80-85. I have a lariat and there is an indicator bar which shows instant mpg figures. Try driving while looking at that, sort of like the old vacuum gage method. Best I got was 70 miles on highway at 65 of 33.2mpg right after a fill up. Stock rolling stock. Keep the faith.
I'm in the same range in NJ, where it is mostly flat. Lariat AWD with tow package and just over 3,000 miles.
Just filled up a tank with almost all around town mileage, and hand-calculated at 19.3 mpg. Not thrilled, but winter mix fuel and keep in mind the rating for AWD is 22 city, 29 highway and 25 mixed driving. Maybe some are fixated on 25 mpg mixed. With the mods done by the OP, especially the tires and the lifted front coupled with winter fuel mix, the mileage is not that bad.
My best was a road trip to Florida where we averaged 29.5 on the Interstate with Florida gas.

I'm getting about 23-24 MPG average in mixed cycle with my XLT FX4. The 4K towing package probably hurts mileage decently if people take it.
