I know it's not fair but I can't get past the looks. Too Metrosexual but that's likely Hyundai's target so good for them
Needs to come with man-bun wearing accessories for hipsters.

I'd definitely argue the styling. Personal preference. Hate the look of the Santa Cruz
I would definitely have preferred to buy a Hyundai, my family has had great experience with Hyundai vehicles plus they have that amazing warranty. No experience whatsoever with Ford. Even if Hyundai had matched Ford on pricepoint and with the hybrid, I don't think I could get over the looks of the SC. I thought it was ugly in pictures, I've seen dozens of them by now and IMO they are even uglier in person.

And the little details separate the wheat from the chaff and that is where the Maverick differentiates itself from a Santa Cruz. For example you can't get an ATV into the bed of a Santa Cruz while you can (barely) in a Maverick. That is a detail a company that has experience and is actually building functional trucks for various market segments hits and a car company like Hyundai misses.

As for the blind spot, the headrests in the Maverick are removable so that will help a lot with visibility. First day I get mine, I am taking them out. Don’t know if they come out in the Hyundai.
You might want to reconsider, I got rear-ended in a vehicle that didn't have headrests and wound up with titanium in my neck from the whiplash.

I can remember as a kid we had cars that not only didn’t have headrests, it didn’t have seat belts.
My first two cars didn't have them, 61 Falcon/63 VW wagon.

If they had put a hybrid drivetrain in it ...... Whole different conversation
A SC Hybrid would also be at a much higher cost. The Maverick is the first Hybrid that is LESS expensive than the gas engine version.

Quality control is quality control. Doesn't matter where they're built. The Escape is built in Mexico and that vehicle is as good as any car built in America.
Agree: Quality control is quality control

My former 2015 Honda Fit Ex had no repairs over the 7 years I had it. The wife's 2009 Honda CR-V Ex is going on 13+ years with only one minor repair (door switch $20) and no major repairs.

The Fit was built in Mexico.

Plus the Santa cruz CAN'T tow over 3500 lbs legally in some states without a trailer brake controller. Also the Santa cruz can't tow up hills at slow speeds like a boat ramp because the tranny burns up. The maverick can do it all.

And the whole profits go overseas thing is old “boomers” talking. It’s a global economy now like it or not. American companies don’t care about you any more than a foreign based one.
I do care where the money goes, but like you say I don't think the "brand" matters so much as the domestic parts content and the place of assembly, and in that respect the Santa Cruz wins as its has quite high domestic parts with the engine and transmission made in the US and the car assembled here. Props are due when companies do that, and likewise some disapproval warranted when they leave us for Mexico.

Heck, that's one thing I found annoying about the Chevy Trailblazer, its 0% domestic parts and is made and assembled all in Korea. Meanwhile I think they said the most American vehicle you can buy today is a Honda Ridgeline or something like that. Crazy times.
