So when I bought mine off the lot, I ended up driving my car (traditional automatic with a stick interface), my old Dodge (column shifter, delicious), and then the Maverick with the dial. The dial felt so weird and I was with you in instantly hating it.

Fast forward a few months and my opinion is completely changed, I love the damned thing. Get into the truck to go somewhere and I never have to even glance down to see where I'm at.

  • Need to go in reverse? Twist clockwise one click (its pretty tactile, you can feel each click)
  • Need to go forward? Give that dial a big slap clockwise - it won't cycle around so once it's in drive, it's in drive!
  • Arrived at your destination? Slap that shit counterclockwise one big spin and you know you're in park.
Do I miss other ways of shifting? Honestly, besides maybe paddle shifters with fake manual, not really. It's an automatic, I'm just telling the thing which direction I want the vehicle to go. Whether it's a stick through fake gates meant to make it "feel" more interesting, or an unobtrusive knob that looks like an overgrown volume dial, it's just too set and forget to worry about.

i would like to ask all, does anyone like the diel shift. i personally do not like it. so I am on a mission to see if there is a way to put a hand held shift like an f150. does anyone agree. thank you
I have a Fusion with the dial, and it just takes getting used to. I don't dislike it. It's also smoother to change drive modes than any levers I've used.

I also have a Hyundai Tuscon with buttons for each drive mode. Be glad you have a dial and not buttons. :)

Does your left foot still thump the floor every time you come to a stop?

Never having had a dial shifter, I didn't think I'd like it. As it turns out, though, I do like it, and quite a lot!

I don't mind it. I like that it's out of the way.

Don't have a Maverick but like it on the Fusion. Once you get use to the extra room you'll wonder why you ever liked a shifter.

I've had stick shifts, three on the tree, automatic lever on the column, automatic lever on the dash, push buttons on the dash, automatic on the console, and now rotary dial on the console. Actually, I like them all.

Evidently, some Tesla driver also experienced "shifter withdrawal" and so the solution was born: a shifter that fits in your cup holder (available online). Hopefully this will help affected new Maverick owners with their transition too.

Lol I have done that. Push the left foot down and nothing there.

Well considering they just past a law that requires all cars to auto park. This shifter will be cheaper and easier to implement. It can be placed anyplace.
I know a few plow owner who have them and they say they hate them. At the same time the lole they it is out of the way for placing the controller.
We just go a plow for the town I work for I would just like to hang the controller and press it instead of holding it. I cant because the shifter is in the way and there is only one spot open enough to hang it.

Being a old man i would much prefer a center console with a floor type shifter or lever on the column.but they dont build cars for old folks🙃
Why not a push button shift like my 62 Dodge Lancer?
