Hey @fordvideoguy...

Does the Brand Manager (or anyone else) know if the folks in Hermosillo are making any effort to put chips in the Mavericks stuck in the holding lot on "Chip Hold"?

Or are they just ignoring the trucks in the holding lot and putting all their effort/materials into the trucks coming off the line each day.

(I ask because I see folks getting their trucks -- same equipment as mine -- built and shipped in late January and February after mine was built and set aside earlier in January.)
I'll ask

So now it is Tim's fault!!!! sheesh.
No, the chip shortage is not any dealer's fault. They should have disclosed to buyers if they had enough allocations for the number of orders. That way the buyers knew where they stood in line vs ordering from another dealer with a shorter line where people have already taken delivery.

Does anyone know why the links in the confirmation email from ford aren't working. They were working up until last Wednesday but now whenever I click on any of the links it says that the URL can not be found.

The one million dollar question that those of us on chip hold would like to know. I don’t expect any real answers though, but I little honesty would go a long way.

You seem to go from one illogical statement to another. I this illogical statement you are assuming dealers have perfect information but are intentionally withholding it. On the other hand, why don't you put the responsibility on the individual buyer to ask the dealer about allocations, etc.

Hey why were you not told we were going to have inflation, high food and gas prices would that not be a more valid complaint that affects a greater number of people?

In reality Tim explained it all last night before you posted this reply so It seem by this reply you are not attentive or or just trying to make an attempt at being right when you are not.

We have had 0 hybrid orders from late August, September, October, November scheduled so far.
Brutal. I am in the time frame so it sounds like my 2022 won’t arrive until 2023😵💫

I think at this point what Ford should do is completely stop building hybrids (though seems they already have) and just start up again for 2023 in August. That way it will give them plenty of time to acquire the chips that they need.

I doubt they would. If you order a module from a vendor (like a touch screen) you get the module not something half baked where you (ford/vendor purchasing) are expected to solder in additional semi conductors/chips after the fact.

Here's whats likely happening. Ford orders a 500k touch screen units. They land in a warehouse Ford owns and then are shipped off to different plants around the world. So the plant in Mexico might get 150k of them. Spain might get 150k etc. They arrive and are on a bunch of pallets and during the work day some dude is told, "Ok delivery X amount to the floor for line production and delivery Y amount to our holding lot where we have some dude installing them at the last minute."

If all they did was dump every new touch screen into a car in the holding lot then the assembly line would sit idle or new cars coming off would also have to hit the holding lot (undesirable). They are paying people to work not to sit around but also don't want to add additional steps. When you have resource constraints but don't want any one portion to sit 100% idle you have to decrease allocation across the spread of inputs (assembly line, holding lot, replacements shipped to service departments, etc) and as more modules come in allocate accordingly.

I do not work on automotive manufacturing but do work with ordering hardware and these kinds of modules from overseas which are then put into mass produced devices. The goal is to always keep the assembly line moving and ideally to do it without having to send every item off the line to a holding lot where further post processing is required.

I suspect there's also the case where on some cars (like Mazda CX5) you can order the car with the infotainment unit and navigation and the reality is that "navigation" add on is just a micro sd card and if they are backed up waiting for that I guess that could also be called a "chip" shortage but its a real stretch of words there.

Just my dumb 2 cents.
There is nothing dumb about the two cents you threw into the ring. I am certain this is how it is going down

If y'all are referring to the "View Online" link in the order emails, that link just opens the same email in a web browser. It doesn't link to an order tracker or anything - that will come in your scheduling email with your VIN. The "View Online" link is temporary, it doesn't pull up your order in a system (rather, just displays the email on a web page), and it will expire after so many weeks.

Putting chips in cars seems a simple process - if that was the only thing left to do to get the trucks on a train then likely they'd be all in on it - that's big money sitting in the desert. There's probably other things to do after the chips are in place including validation and readiness tests on each vehichle. ON the other hand putting the chips in on many thousands of trucks sitting there might not move the process along much quicker as there may be lack of xport trucks to get them on the way here.

I wouldn't worry about it too much. Been happening to me off and on all year. Seems like they take the site down periodically for maintenance or updates

You are joking right ? Ford would idle a plant for 7 months ? Put employees on layoff ?

That is how much emotionalism and Ludacris some of the comments that are occurring right now on this website. A few try to bring people back to reality but I wonder if it is working at all sometimes.
