I'm one of the guys that likes to change oil early just to get mfg crud out, and
after 'break in'.

Given Escapes are getting 300K+ mil lifespans in taxi duty when well-maintained, I'm
aiming for similar lifespan.

1.) given our driving style (light commute/local, streets/expressways w just some freeway)
best time for 1st engine Oil/Filter change? XL has 450 miles on it now.

I was thinking 1500+ miles - esp given driving style means there was a fair amount
of battery-only street driving.

2.) When should the eCVT tranny fluid be first changed, given above paranoia?

1) When the service guide tells you to do it.
2) Also when the service guide tells you to do it.

I'm not sure where you guys get this idea there is "crud" in the factory fill in a modern car. Modern engine tolerances are so tight that there can be no crud, no debris in the oil without major issues. This happened with Hyundai/Kia not that long ago and caused a shitload of engine failures and recalls.

Your worries are extremely outdated. Service it by the book and enjoy a long service life.

Many dealers, mine included, will do free first service to cover any warranty/customer satisfaction issues. An early oil change is frequently part of it, and some mfrs. have installed different "break-in" oil. I don't think Ford does this, but still did a first change at 5K.

Second change was a 20K, because the hybrid only counts oil life when the ICE is on. EV miles don't count. I'm at 35K now with 1,500 miles left, so this oil will go longer.

I'd do the oil around 1500 just to be on the safe side. The AT is kinda confusing. Considering the suggestions for "severe" use vs normal is 30k vs 150k I think splitting the difference is a good idea even if your doing normal use. So like every 75k. But they also don't specify whether this is for the 8 speed or the eCVT soooo.....

Dlr service mgr said he'd do it at 3K as hybrid engine break-in period is extended due to lotsa electric use in local driving.

That makes sense. I'll probably wait a bit too

I decided to change the oil at 1,500 and again at 5,000. I will send the oil in for analysis 🧐 to see if I should continue changing early or follow the manual. I will never exceed 10k or 1yr.

2.) When should the eCVT tranny fluid be first changed, given above paranoia?
Manual says 150k with normal use or 30k if extreme use. I plan to do 50k for my first one and send it in for analysis as well. .

While you are right in the "crud" department, think about transmissions and how many manufacturers were making "lifetime" transmissions with no dipstick or drain plug. So most people don't really trust what they say, part of the requirements from the Dept of Energy involves maintenance. My friend at a local tranny shop always told me to get the fluid changed every 60K miles; that is what 5 years? Certainly can't be that much of a problem. Same wtih engine oil. There is stuff in the engine from manufacturing, it should be changed once at a low mileage, maybe 2K. Then at 5-6K, but hey! Its your car, and you will probably pass the problem on when you sell it.

I changed the filter and oil on my Hybrid at 1,000 miles. Why? I read too many posts on that dinky oil filter being put on by a gorilla at the factory and he forgot to lubricate it before he did it. I figured I would get it off before it got really hot from a long summer day drive and welded itself on there.

I also didn't like the fact that it is so small of a filter. So, I pulled the undercover off and got to work. Why does a 20 minute oil change take several hours? Because getting that filter off was a nighmare! I ended up using a large hose clamp on it and pried on it with a large screwdriver a bit at a time turning it about 1/2 an inch then resetting the clamp. After three sets I was able to unscrew it by hand. Very disturbing experience, but I now can rest assured that the next time I change it out it will only take the 20 minutes I thought in the first place.

And a funny thing happened today. My son calls me asking how the hell did I get that filter off. He is lying under the car with every filter removal tool he has failing him. I let him know the hose clamp and prybar works but only a little at a time. So go easy on it.

I also recently changed the oil on my 2024 Maverick Hybrid (at 1200 miles). I used the vice grip oil filter wrench from Harbor Freight and it worked very well, dinky oil filter from the factory and that fluorescent oil. I did have a screwdriver handy (from past experience). At least I know that the remaining oil filters will not be on so tight. I thought that removing the splash shield was the worst part, 15 screws, t30 size, takes time but it was worth it. I'll change it again at 3500 miles and then probably every 7000. It's sort of therapeutic and I know it was done correctly.
