I am only doing these two because they are the only two that matter. Normal is a split. I wanted to do the two that are opposite ends of the spectrum and the ones I will use the most.
Ok, for those of you who want the short version-10 mpg less in sport. Enjoy your night, Merry CHRISTMAS and Happy New Year.

For those of you who want more info, here you go.

I have tried both. Quick sum up is the difference is very similar to tuning a diesel truck, night and day.
Throttle response: I feel that after comparing these I need to edit my earlier review of how smooth the throttle is. In Eco it is simply that, smooth. It doesnt jerk or lag, it just comes on very linear. If you gun it you will not see 100% power. It will jump and gently climb. To get it to lurch forward requires a good bit of throttle. I have yet to find myself wanting more throttle than it could give. My father drove it today and hit it in that mode, he said "It's not fast, but it is not slow either". That is the perfect description of Eco mode. It has enough power to make it drive well. You will hit electric mode often and at every chance the computer can give.

Now Sport: Responsive as hell. I was easing down the road and hit the mode button to switch to Sport(one push after Eco). At that throttle position the truck LUNGED forward. I was honestly taken by surprise. I did not expect that much of a difference. I never hit pure electric mode in Sport. Sport wanted to run. Mileage dropped a ton with a noticeable difference in engine RPMS. It was around 30 mpgs which is still not bad, but thats at the EB ratings. As I was on a 50 mile drive I slipped it back into Eco mode only to be met with a slow car a few miles later. Perfect time to test it. I pushed the button once and slapped it into Sport mode. When I went to pass the truck raced forward hitting 80 mph from 45 very quickly while jumping to near 100% power. Even my wife noticed the difference. All I could say was "Damn that was strong." I played with it some never hitting electric but it was extremely responsive. More so than my tuned 350 and I know more than our EB Escape. I understood why it is as fast to 100 as the EB. When it goes, it GOES.

My verdict....I will run Eco 98% of the time. The fuel mileage is just to good. If I get into a questionable situation or need to pass, one quick click of the button is all it takes to get more throttle and a fast pass. All of you who were worried about the lack of power passing, DONT. This truck has PLENTY.......

So for those of you who read the whole thing, Merry CHRISTMAS, Happy New Year AND may all your babies be born Naked.

Thank you for the information, your findings are what I had envisioned using the drive modes -- Eco most of the time, sport for passing and entering highways, and slippery for snowy weather.

And Merry Christmas to you!

I dont know when I will use slippery. However If I can get 3k people to donate 1 dollar I will go ahead and buy my aluminum trailer and do a 900 mile tow/haul review with 1800lbs being towed!

If we could get two Mav’s side by side, one in sport mode, the other in eco and some 0-60 and flat out drag races that would be awesome. Let’s see what the difference really is!
A length easily. When I tell you its obvious it is obvious. No mistaking which mode you are in.

Oh for sure there’s a noticeable difference. My ‘17 Escape had sport mode with the paddle shifters and it was fun to drive and very peppy. I’ve watched a few videos on YouTube with the Mav doing speed runs but I don’t think any of them have really compared the difference or even noted which mode the truck was in when doing them. Any chance you could use an app or GPS to get some real world numbers?

All sport mode seems to do is keep RPM up so any additional throttle seems like a quicker response

I got the FX4 package so I did not get the the eco mode. My question is can an eco mode be added even if I have to give up one that came with FX4?

Great comparison. Will the truck stay in eco mode if you leave it overnight or does it always default back to normal the next time you start it up?

Excellent review! Very easy to understand the difference between the 2 modes. Now if I could get 100k people to sign a petition to have my hybrid built, that would great! 🙄🤣🤣

The owner's manual suggests that it defaults back to Normal mode each time you crank the car. Which seems kind of annoying if you prefer to do most of your driving in some other mode.

Thank you so much for the review. These are exactly the questions I've had on my mind. I also plan on keeping it in Eco most of the time. My goal is to get the mpg as high as possible, (without pissing off anybody behind me! Lol) But it's good to know, when needed, this little truck can get up and go!
You have yourself a Merry Christmas also and Thank You again!
