For the convenience it offers.
It's one of the cheapest mods you can do at around $30

Tailgate with soft open damper strut.👍🏻👍🏻

It is a great upgrade convenience for around $30
It's especially convenient if your hands are full and you don't want to set anything down you can use one finger to pull the latch and let it go, as my video shows. ☝🏻☝🏻
It eliminates any chance of the tailgate slipping from your hand and slamming down and bouncing.
I think it's worth the $30 and a little time.
I have a 2023 and installed it the first month I owned the truck.

Tailgate Slamming and bouncing Without the damper strut.😯

Here are a few more articles from The Forum.

There is no extra cost for tools as most of the strut kits come with the proper size tools for installation.
You will have to remove the driver side tie down on the tailgate. It interferes with the struts operation. You don't have to replace it unless you feel the need that you're going to be tying something down or you have OCD.

There are three issues to consider. First, it requires a 50 Torx wrench to install (going from memory here). Second, you will loos the Driver's Side tie-down cleat as it will interfere with the damper. Third, you can purchase a modified replacement cleat that works with the damper.

So the cost is more than just the Damper. Is it worth it? TOTALLY.

Yes, worth the price. I know there are many loud and grumbling detractors on here about these things, but I know for me, my two previous truck had heavy tailgates and had dampening built into the hinges. I got used to being able to just pull the handle and let it drop. Being used to that, the Mav got me a few times before I remembered it wasn't dampened. Yeah, I know it's probably the "lightest truck tailgate in the industry" but having it drop slow and safe is worth a bunch to me.

As you can see from the pictures below. Most of the tailgate dampers come with the tools you need to install the damper.
The size is a 45 Torx Plus
Ford Maverick uses Torx Plus now.

When you look at these pictures. The difference is clear. The TORX PLUS design, appears to be more robust.
While a T50 will fit in a TP45 bolt. It can get a little chewed up👇🏻

For the factory tie down bracket that has to be removed from the tailgate to fit the assist strut - there are options for a replacement tie down point that works with the strut. I have one available that I make and sell.

Works well and clears the new strut and no issues with the cable. And made in the USA by a fellow Maverick owner. I have a thread here in the For Sale forum. Don't lose a tie-down point!

I bought one of these tie downs for my truck. The fit and finish is excellent, and it works as it should. I recommend it.
