I had the deezee in my 22, bought a $18 Chinese one for the old F150 and didn’t like it. Older friend bought an off brand one for his much newer f150 and it worked fine, so that’s what I went with on my 25. Guessing tailgate weight is why the cheaper ones don’t work as well. My f150 one drops quick about 1/4 the way before it starts to slow, friends 150 doesn’t do that. I got this one for my 25:

Another thing that can happen is if the tailgate cable gets caught between the tailgate and the strut. I had to bend the cable attachment at the top to align the cable so that doesn't happen.

I haven’t looked into it maybe someone knows the answer. Has anyone investigated adding a tailgate assist strut to each side?
Most likely, it's not been done because only one is necessary. The struts are designed for a certain length and weight. So if you used two, each would have to work for a smaller load.

I chose the rough country although they all look the same to me except the writing on the side

Can you show me the way you installed the bottom bracket? This flange nut doesn't seem to do anything and mine keeps popping out and the bracket moves left.

I am away from my truck after threading the bolt onto the nut align the nut so it slips into the hole in the tailgate let it drop inside then start tightening, the nut will turn 90 degs to the hole so it can’t come out and allow you to tighten it down this will prevent to bracket from moving hope this helps

As the other person mentioned, you have to thread the bolt on with the flat sided part towards the bracket. Thread it on so that it's almost fully threaded. then insert it and turn the bolt so that it catches while pulling out on the bracket to tighten. Otherwise the bolt will spin inside the slot. I screwed mine on a lot further than this guy and aligned up the flat sides at the top and bottom before inserting the nut into the hole and pulling out to keep the nut from turning.
