NO ONE FORGET:
The Best oil and filter are the MOST EXPENSIVE ones.
Don't pay any attention to brand names, independent comprehensive comparative studies, certifications, testimonials, or anything other than the price. Trust the company with the most expensive oil and filters, read their websites and they will explain why they are the bestest. Nuf Said.

Also don't forget to send in an oil sample every week to be tested for $20-30 so you know exactly when to change your oil in about six months or so.

OR: Just change your oil every time you fill up the gas tank to save money on repairs. Or every two fill-ups if you live recklessly.

I just changed mine at 1,500 just to get the break in oil out and to see if there was any visible metal. The oil looked good, no oxidation or metal and I do a lot of highway. Replaced with Schaeffer’s Flex Synthetic 0W-20. Fantastic oil!

I follow the severe service schedule. I use whatever oil is cheapest, that meets the OE specs. Ford filters, because points...
People are wild about oil preference. "Its a great oil" "Best oil i've ever used" "My dad used it and never had an issue"... Any unsuspecting person would assume that all of these declarations come from "Home testing labs" and backed by scientific data that wasn't found in a you tube video or force fed to you by someone else with a strong opinion.

Cant wait for the AMSOIL fan boys to find their way to the MTC forums. Those guys are a lot of fun.

If I'm not mistaken the OEM oil filter on new Mavericks leaving the factory is kind of miniscule

It’s plenty big enough if you run synthetic.
At any reasonable service interval.

Besides, if you change your oil and the small filter is becoming clogged that’s likely your engine disintegrating, Not likely.

Fagetaboutit !

Why do they bother manufacturing bigger filters then?
Whenever I think of tiny filters. I always think of Dave's Auto center in Utah and his videos. Granted these are about bigger trucks and diesels. I think the same logic still holds true on our little trucks.

Had the first 3 oil changes done at the dealership to use the Ford points. Been using FL-910s filter and Pennzoil Ultra Platinum Full Synthetic since. First oil change at 5k miles and every 5k miles since. Just did my 40k oil change last weekend. I’ve followed same oil change schedule for all my vehicles I’ve ever owned. I had a 2010 Edge SEL before Maverick and went 240k with no oil related issues (did have the common internal water pump failure and replaced at 130k miles). Oil changes are cheap insurance to help your engine last longer, especially turbo engines.

Server’s duty, harsh conditions, for people using roach oil and or people running 10 or 15,000 mile service interval oils.

And to sell more expensive oil filters.

I took a Toyota 2.7 Ltr to 528,000 trouble free miles with 10,12,000 mile service intervals, server duty. Never used larger filters,
Just a good Full synthetic oil,
Mobil One high mileage with their 15,000 mile oil additive package.
Took an AMC 4.0L to 394,000 with no problems, on roach oil and 5,000 mile service intervals.
There were several Fords that got past 350,000 miles without using larger filters
Never had an issue.

So I guess a lifetime of long lived engines and mechanics advice never sold me on larger filters. Regular services was the ticket.

Well all...I have 46 ASE certifications, been in the industry 50+ years. Still working...and still amazed how many folks get worked up over the topic of oil changes. 15 years of my career I've spent teaching A/D repair at Manufacturer level. My take on oil changes are ...did anyone teach you step by step sex? Most will say no. So trial and error and doing what feels right. Same with oil changes. There is no one right answer for everyone. I know I keep my vehicles 200k-225k miles. So I invest in costly oil. For someone the flips vehicles, cheap oil changes on infrequent intervals works too. Oil has evolved as have engines. I ran my oem oil for 1500 miles, but swapped the filter to a premium synthetic filter at 1000. At 1500 miles it received royal purple and fresh filter. Now it will have that repeated every 7k for its life with me. I don't and won't debate oil or service. Do what feels right to you. Reap the results of your decision.
I too have 50+ years in the industry my first 15 in the shop the rest in management, I can tell you that all the high mile customers I had always changed their oil like clockwork, its the blood of the vehicle, my first maverick XLT ECO oil light used to come on way before fords 10k.
If your one of those people that keeps a vehicle till the tires fall off like most of my family do your first at 1000/2000 miles and every 5k after that, I did mine at 2k and have almost 5k now, going in for state inspection in a month and will do it again in my Lariat hybrid I have now. Am retired now only do about 6k a year and only keep a vehicle around 4 years so some lucky person is getting my vehicles with 15/20k with clean oil and tires rotated every other oil change, a few hundred bucks a year is unheard of to maintain a vehicle properly. Remember this FORD doesn't care what happens to your vehicle after the warranty is up, they want to sell cars and yes am one of those OLD geezers that those young whippersnappers were talking about in the other posts.
