Frank,
To help you weed through all the dash cams on the market.
"HeyBales" posted this.
$114 and Amazon it can be in your hands in less than a week.

No technical skill needed to hook it up. Suction cup to the windshield plugged into the cigarette/12 volt socket.
Good Luck

Cue the paranoid people afraid of them being stolen.
Thanks Glen! I’m gonna look into that also. I’m ready for one .

I just installed a 3 camera dash cam a couple weekends ago.

I've had them on my cars for over a decade at this point. You just never know, a lot of crazy and dishonest people out there these days.

Not that it really matters since most everything is 5ghz wifi these days anyways, but about a year an a half ago, on my garmin mini dash cam, someone got out of line at a mcdonalds drive through and nicked my bumper on my last car, pulling out and then just drove off, i called the cops (if he hadn't driven off i wouldve been totally fine with an apology since all that really happened was a relatively small scrape) and i was trying to download the footage from the garmin app but it was going so damn slow that me and the officer just awkwardly waited and then gave up, he told me to email him, and by then i just cooled down and didnt care since looking at the footage at home it didnt get his license plate.

Get something with 2+ cameras, (multiple angles will paint a better picture) with 5ghz wifi and name brand so that the app is useable and doesn't want to make you put your head through the drywall trying to use it in the heat of the moment.

I installed this

https://amzn.to/4tVDk6l

... i bought it the day after the incident i described.

I hardwired it with a fusetap into the footwell fusebox, but it can be as simple as running a cable and just plugging the usb cable into the center usb ports by the start button.

the biggest pain by far was routing and hiding the wires neatly.

I agree, the Garmin App is a PITA. What I did is buy a micro-SD card adapter, pop the card out, and review on my laptop.

I tried the new dash cam app, and it took maybe 10 seconds to download a clip, works for me. I should put a microsd to usbc adapter in the glovebox so I can review them on my phone as a backup though, but then with my luck id drop the microsd down into the abyss somewhere.

A driver for the Hyatt tried to ram us and the continued to try and force us off the road. My wife was driving and understandably shook. We need a camera now and have no technical ability. Please help by providing someone for us. We have no proof that this guy tried to harm us but don’t want to be on this situation again.
In case of emergency, have you ever thought about using your smartphone camera??? Either you hold it while wife is driving or you keep one of those smartphone suckycap mounts in the glovebox or center console.

On the other hand, I have a Viofo A119 mounted just to the right of my rear view mirror. The cord to power it is neatly tucked under the headliner. And you can do that with your fingers. I ran it down the passenger side pillar behind the dash and have it coming out behind and plugged into the power socket.

Glock is the answer!

Glock 44
Glock 43X with the 15 round mod and now over 3,000 rounds of muscle memory practice with this one. It replaced my Gen 4 19

Still an absolute mystery to me that dash cams are not offerred on every vehicle built. I mean, why not? Profit for the automaker. A service for the car buying public. If dashcams were mandatory safety equipment, I wager the roads would be a lot safer. People just behave differently when they know they're being watched. True for all of us.
Good point and I am in agreement, should be an option. Some overseas country virtually everyone has a camera. Insurance companies play a role in that as they want to be able to place the blame. Unfortunately, the blame may be on the wrong individual! Now, suppose it was an option. The next phase would most likely be a mandate by our gub-mint to be installed and accessible to law enforcement, attorneys and the insurance company. You know, "just for your own safety".... Be careful what you wish for!

Only problem with nice dash cams is they sit in the open where potential thieves can see them unless you take them down every time you park in public
I installed my Viofo, front and back camera's.

I have the exact same in all my vehicles, front and back but no inside. Nice easy to use units and for those worrying about theft, you can just unplug them, slide off of the bracket (very easy) and toss in glove box.

I have had a good experience with Rove R24K cam. Lasted over 3 years now. A major accident happened recently right in front of me. I did not know SD cards wear out. Missed that accident. Replace SD cards if not recording properly.

How hard was the install. Did you hard wire it and hide the wire

By the time I got phone out the law breaking activity was over. I dis get the plate and the phone number on camera. But that’s not evidence. Thanks on the tip for the dash cam!

I bought this camera almost 2 years ago and it's has been great! I have the model A that wires directly to the OBD II port, it was a easy install!
Here's the actual link to what I bought back in May of 2024:
