Ford Maverick 2026 Maverick is Edmunds' Top Rated Truck 1771529234821-ci

Why did the Maverick win?

You don't need as much truck as you think, and the Ford Maverick proves it. Despite being the smallest pickup on sale, the Maverick packs capability, practicality, and utility into a package that fits anywhere. With an Edmunds Rating of 7.6 out of 10, it doesn't just acquit itself well in its class; it's great no matter how you slice it. Throw in an affordable starting price of $29,840 and the more than 40 mpg combined we've seen in our testing, and the Maverick becomes the consummate all-rounder that most pickup trucks aspire to be.

"The Maverick does exactly what you want a compact truck to do. It's easy to drive and park, and it hauls and tows more than its fair share. When equipped with its hybrid powertrain, it achieves surprisingly good gas mileage too."— Kurt Niebuhr, manager, vehicle testing

It's a good thing it took them 5 years to figure this out.
Publishing this secret in '22-24 would have been frustrating to everyone who waited months to years for their Maverick.
Nice to see supply has finally caught up with demand.

Edmunds is not a clickbait org. It carries weight.

No one likes being told they bought a piece of junk even if it is true. My father once joked that the only reason people are proud of their Mercedes is because they don't want to admit they were stupid enough to buy a Mercedes. So, they buy another one to prove their prior purchase wasn't a mistake.

Edmunds is not sugar coating anything. A 7.6 out of 10 is not actually all that great. A freaking Hyundai beat it for best overall. But if you need a small truck to do truck things, the Maverick is perfect.

Ford has the stranglehold on the small truck market currently and I believe no one else really wants to take them on. I believe its been 5 years now or close to it since the Maverick was first announced and still no one else has a small truck. Five years is a long time, long enough to design and make one if they wanted. I've wanted another small truck since 2011 and thank God Ford got it right cause I love mine.

Second time around that is.
The original Maverick was a huge hit. Our version will never hit 500K in a year:
The 1970 Maverick was introduced to the American public on April 17, 1969—five years to the day after the record-breaking launch of the Ford Mustang. Clearly, Ford was reaching out to recapture the magic of the Mustang, which is often cited as the most successful U.S. car rollout in history. And according to Ford, the Maverick actually outsold the Mustang at introduction. Thanks in part to a long production run, Ford sold nearly 579,000 Mavericks in the 1970 model year, propelled by 22,600 orders in the first three days.

It's great to see all these awards it's winning. Just goes to show how great of a truck it is, despite its shortcomings. Makes me feel good about my decision. And it's so surprising no one else has come out with a competitor yet even after five years. I guess the SC could've been considered but the Maverick just whooped its ass in sales! No comparison. So much to the point of discontinuing it altogether. I figured at this point Toyota or GM would've come out with something by now but, like someone else mentioned, I don't think they want to take them on.

To be honest, Not sure if that would help because
1.They are overpriced. But as soon as they start looking around, they'll find that everything is overpriced-er😅. So they'll come back and reconsider and possibly purchase the Maverick anyway.
2.They aren't anything special. And that's the point. They're simply a competent, solid truck and reliable transportation that will do what you need them to do with no fuss, no muss. And given their popularity it seems that's what people want.
Telling them it's nothing special is likely to get translated in their minds as PRACTICAL.And we 50+ year olds love practical.😂😂
