To be honest, Not sure if that would help because
1.They are overpriced. But as soon as they start looking around, they'll find that everything is overpriced-er😅. So they'll come back and reconsider and possibly purchase the Maverick anyway.
2.They aren't anything special. And that's the point. They're simply a competent, solid truck and reliable transportation that will do what you need them to do with no fuss, no muss. And given their popularity it seems that's what people want.
Telling them it's nothing special is likely to get translated in their minds as PRACTICAL.And we 50+ year olds love practical.😂😂
‘Practical’

That’s the word I used to get my wife to say ok to me spending $36,000 on a Lariat trim.

Most brands were too scared to bring their South American small trucks to a market obsessed with 'bigger is better.' Ford proved there’s a massive appetite for a compact, efficient truck in North America. Huge win for them.

That is true but those were vastly different times with much less competition. There was no Hyundai/Kia and the Big three of Japan had barely cracked the U.S. market at that time. Honda, Toyota and Nissan's market share changed quickly during and after the 1973 oil crisis.
My post was countering the implication that the original Maverick was a failure. It was a wild success that lasted for years. By any measure, it was a bigger hit than our Mavericks (but Ford's production hiccups deserve a large portion of the blame for that).

Edmunds is not a clickbait org. It carries weight.

No one likes being told they bought a piece of junk even if it is true. My father once joked that the only reason people are proud of their Mercedes is because they don't want to admit they were stupid enough to buy a Mercedes. So, they buy another one to prove their prior purchase wasn't a mistake.

Edmunds is not sugar coating anything. A 7.6 out of 10 is not actually all that great. A freaking Hyundai beat it for best overall. But if you need a small truck to do truck things, the Maverick is perfect.
Slightly off topic Bob, what is your opinion of the ski jump on the headlamps?

I guess I'll just relish in the fact that I just bought my first top rated new vehicle ..... I guess for once I actually made a smart decision.
And yes I am very happy with my 2026 XL Hybrid AWD Maverick.

Why did the Maverick win?

You don't need as much truck as you think, and the Ford Maverick proves it. Despite being the smallest pickup on sale, the Maverick packs capability, practicality, and utility into a package that fits anywhere. With an Edmunds Rating of 7.6 out of 10, it doesn't just acquit itself well in its class; it's great no matter how you slice it. Throw in an affordable starting price of $29,840 and the more than 40 mpg combined we've seen in our testing, and the Maverick becomes the consummate all-rounder that most pickup trucks aspire to be.

Last June I traded in a 2500HD Ram on a '24 Lariat. Reasons for needing full size had faded, and our recent retirement to a smaller house/garage meant it would never be garageable.

We looked at the Ranger at the same time as we were looking for Mavs, but it seems to have been bulked up from its original version. The tailgate height was more than I was expecting. Then we drove the Maverick and felt the comfort of the seats, and that was it. Except I wasn't knocked over by the colour of it or the other '25's they had. Coming back in to the showroom, I noticed a small truck right outside the sales guy's cubicle. Looked at the sticker and said to him, is this one available? He said it's a '24, I thought, no big deal. Even after he said the 25 has a bigger touchscreen I thought so what? Does this '24 have the B & O sound system? Yup. Now I'm standing back a bit from it and then looking at this Atlas blue color. I don't think I've ever seen a better blue. The papers were drawn up right smartly.

I love the way it drives and holds the road. I love the way it looks. I love saving gas money. Perfect vehicle for me for this point in my journey!

It's great to see all these awards it's winning. Just goes to show how great of a truck it is, despite its shortcomings. Makes me feel good about my decision. And it's so surprising no one else has come out with a competitor yet even after five years. I guess the SC could've been considered but the Maverick just whooped its ass in sales! No comparison. So much to the point of discontinuing it altogether. I figured at this point Toyota or GM would've come out with something by now but, like someone else mentioned, I don't think they want to take them on.
And Chevrolet would be competing with themselves. The Colorado and Canyon.

Dec 28, 2023 — Both the 2024 Chevrolet Colorado and GMC Canyon share a 2.7-liter turbocharged four-cylinder engine driving an eight-speed automatic transmission.

Taking on Ford would not be easy, The SC left us, That Made my Day.

I had two different friends who bought Mavericks. Tough Little car.
The Mav of the seventies was a common car in my High School parking lot.
So was Jeff Spicoli and his van, "All I need are some tasty waves, a cool buzz, and I'm fine"
In My High School Mav's out numbered Mustangs and Camaro's 3 to 1, My Guesstimate.

One friend, the Girl got T- boned by a Sedan DeVille really hard.
The top middle of her Dashboard. It was steel btw, creased in the center and bent upward about five Inches, Windshieled blew out.
She was hit on the passenger side. No passenger but if so they would have lived, mulitiple broken bones.
My Friend casually opened her door and stepped out. She walked around her Mav to check on the other people. They were shaken but ok. It was a 45 mph hit. No one had Injuries.

Her Maverick and the Caddie both totalled out.

I remember, she was sore in the morning . :'P
