Regardless of price.
A Single cab is a useless non-starter for me.😐
Single cabs don't sell in significant numbers in the United States.
as long as it has a bench seat and a long box it meets the needs of 90% of trips.

sad that the slate truck has buckets and a mediocre payload/tow

Back in the 60s when bench seats ruled. Bench seats are fine if everybody is the same size.
My dad was 6'5" my mom was 5'3". My dad ended up riding in the backseat if my mom drove. That meant one of us kids got shotgun👍🏻
Generally my dad drove.

The only advantage to a single row cab I can think of is the interior heat/AC can be faster to reach temp!

Clyde, since you asked.
# 1 reason is Convenience.
Ok, that's fair. I'll answer your question by starting with the acknowledgement that the market has chosen and 4 doors has won this debate - pretty much no way around that. And it's likely that your examples are typical of the way most Americans use their vehicles. I get it, I just don't have your use cases.

Ultimately, the Mav is just my transportation and in that respect almost any vehicle would do that job for me equally well except for the needs related to my physicality. I am 6' 3'' and built big and broad shouldered like a NFL linebacker (ok, a retired NFL linebacker who has shall we say "gotten comfortable" :sunglasses: ). Since the mid 90s when everything went aerodynamic with the more slanted windshield, I've had an incredibly difficult time being able to comfortably see out because my line of sight is often in the top third of fourth of the windshield. This alone is what has moved me back to a truck over a car. As I said, I don't have the use cases that include passengers beyond my wife, any four legged family members, or the need to carry very much stuff. So that's my "why" for a truck or trucklet.

As for single cab vs some other configuration, I suppose it's my experience with trucks showing in that. I learned how to drive in a truck, my first two vehicles were trucks, I owned one or two others along the way, and all of those were single cab with the exception of one extended cab (all Fords except for one mid 80s Rampage). So when I think "truck", in my mind I primarily see a 1/2 ton single cab pickup that would just be to get me wherever I'm going for the most part.

I mentioned that I also considered the single cab version of the F-150. I would very likely have bought that if it was offered with the option for a more adjustable seat but the fixed base of that bench style seat doesn't allow any height adjustment so I was back to the windshield problem.

I don't doubt that 2 door trucks would increase the market a bit, but the costs for such a model plus the inevitable 4 door that they need for volume is too much. A vehicle with a fifth the volume of the Mav (I'm being generous) won't meet the fixed cost thresholds. I'm sure Ford did market research on the Maverick and found how few people would buy one. The whole "back seats aren't needed 90% of the time" argument is valid, but while we're at it, the bed isn't needed 90% of the time either. Trucks aren't for farmers and tradesmen any more, they're for suburbanites like me. My bed mostly gets used for groceries, but it's there for the times I need it, about like the hitch, which I've used exactly once in 3 years.

If there were money in 2 seat vehicles, there would be more than full size trucks, the Miata, and supercars with the feature (and full size trucks will at least carry 3 people).

I wonder if it's even possible to build a unibody truck with a 6 ft bed.

And Toyota COO just came out and said they aren’t coming to market anytime soon. That the segment isn’t large enough.

Ford Ranchero did it in;
1960-65, 6 foot bed
1966-67, 6 foot bed
1968-69, 6.5 foot bed
1970-71, 7 foot bed.

Those years were unibody construction.

I couldn't agree more even I am not a big fan of single cabs nor a Chevy guy. But it looks really really good. And a supercharged Corvette engine. Wow.
That's a Big Block Chevy engine with Corvette on the Valve Covers not an LT or LS Small Block Chevy!! IIRC the last time a BBC was offered in the Corvette was probably in the 70's!!

I didn't know the 1970-1971 Ranchero bed was that long.
