Regardless of price.
A Single cab is a useless non-starter for me.😐
Single cabs don't sell in significant numbers in the United States.
Be interesting if they could make a crew cab where you can collapse the rear seats and lay down the panel between the back of the seats and the bed to get another couple of feet of bed storage.

I'm curious about your statement on this. Why is a single cab a non-starter for you? Passengers? Interior cargo? I'm curious because I know they have fallen out of favor but I would personally have no issue with a single cab - in fact, when I was shopping I considered the single cab F-150.

So what is it that you (and seemingly the market in general) has decided makes a second row a must?

Clyde, since you asked.
# 1 reason is Convenience.
Here's what's on, under and behind my seat. For the last 25 years we've had dogs. I have a place for Maya to sit.
I use my storage under my backseat for everything I use when I hike including baofeng radios, ( no cell service very often where I am) binoculars, jump pack.
My wife very often reclines the seat and takes a nap when we're on the road, you can't do that in a two-door.
As far as economy goes my four-door Maverick hybrid gets better gas mileage than my two seat, 3 cylinder, 1900 lb smart convertible.
And a whole lot better than my wife's Escape.
It's also handy to not have to change out vehicles if you want to carry more than one person.
Example: If my wife is at work and my nephews and I want to go out to the range, we don't have to switch vehicles. Again convenience.
My wife has never driven my Maverick, Encore, Chevy Volts or my F350.
She said she doesn't feel comfortable driving other vehicles.
I drive her Escape but very rarely.
There's more but that pretty much sums it up.

I have to stand by an earlier post I made. Even the small sampling from our forum indicates the the market wants four-door pickup trucks.
It seems like this poll
20251217_080332.webp
backs up the fact that there really isn't a large enough market for a two door standard cab pickup truck. Looking at the global market, it's the same as here. Four doors are preferred.
Makes me wonder if Slate will have a market outside of the, 'Hey, it's cheap.' Is there any adjustment to the drivers seat back of the Slate?
How soon before Slate becomes a 4 door?
I hope this answered your question.

I have a question for you.
What do you gain with a two-door versus a four-door Maverick that it can't handle, especially with the tailgate down?

I have a relative that had two-door vehicles her whole life (she’s now 70). Would suffer getting groceries out of the back seat just so she could have the two-door design. A few years ago she found her choices very limited. I gave her a few 3&4 door choices for reliability and the noting the good job car companies have done (with cars) of “hiding” the back doors on some sportier models. She now loves the space and ease-of-access that extra doors give her. Her last two cars have been 5-doors (hatchbacks).

I have 45 years of Two-door trucks with NO problems..
If the Mav came as one I would have bought that.

Yes, the Four-door is a conveniece.
The ability to store and transport your stuff. Securely and out of the elements.. And double as a Taxi, when needed..

The margins $$$ have killed the Two-door for good.
Though there is a segment that be enough...
About 3/4s of the Mav's I see now are Commercials...

Yesterday, I saw my first.. "Orkin"...
30+ years ago all the "Orkins" were, Rangers...

Having a family! Taking kids to the dumps is always fun, taking the dog to a dog park, just using the rear seats for things you just bought if you don't have a bed cover, etc. room behind the two front seats have lots of usages besides carrying people.

I would see a key to a 2-door or extended cab as a more affordable option that fill the needs of many. Now that the Mav is higher in price, good time for another inexpensive choice. Ford should know how the current Maverick created a large backlog of orders when introduced.

They can make a panel that drops down and opens up into the cab of the truck but how much EXTRA do you want to pay for that?
Realistically, how often do you need the extra space into the cab of the truck? I'm guessing with that area open there would be quite a bit of weather coming in so you probably wouldn't be using it in Michigan while it's - 11.

Although I was making an argument for production of the 2 door, I “love” 4-doors on a compact truck. I looked at the VW Saveiro ext cab and my dog struggled to be comfortable back there.

This was the ranger I wanted when I had my extended cab Rangers.
I was mad they didn't sell these in the US.

eh just here and there, situations where that extra couple of feet would be helpful - like having less of a jon boat or a kayak hanging off the tail gate. Also for xporting longer mouldings or lumber, being able to use the interior space up to the dashboard to haul that stuff back from the store and not having to hassle with flags and tiedowns would be handy. Yeah I'm sure cost to do this would be sort of pricey.
