hello all! Took my 25 mav ecoboost for its first oil change. Setup appointment online and told them upon this setup I wanted full synthetic and I told the attendant when I arrived that like my setup online I wanted full synthetic. They finished up and I was paying my bill and I asked did they put in full synthetic like I requested. She checked with her manager and said they put in synthetic blend.
I talked this over and mind you this was about quitting time on a Saturday afternoon and this manager does everything in his power to deflect telling me it’s not needed and synthetics are only for supercharged engines etc… Basically he does everything in his power to convince me to leave instead of taking it back in shop and redo to synthetic.
I left and called this morning hopefully to speak to his boss and he answers the phone being a gatekeeper and I explain to him again what I wanted and hashed over things he should have done.
Has anyone ever ran into this issue before and what did you do or what would you do?

This is why I do my own servicing. Oil changes are extremely easy on the Mav with simple tools and it ends up being cheaper if you have a spare 45 minutes. My brother used to work for Ford dealership and I’ve heard way too many lazy half ass stories about their techs.

If you search the forum, yes, many people have had this issue.

You should get the oil you requested whether the service department thinks it is overkill or not.

If you paid for synthetic blend, then no financial harm done, and you can avoid that dealer and/or make an even louder request for full synthetic next time. The engine isn't going to disassemble itself due to that blend oil.

If you paid for full synthetic and didn't get it, then you have a right to escalate to get at least a partial refund, but in that case I would have them redo the oil change with what you paid for.

As one who has always used full synthetic oil, I would have insisted on full synthetic, and had them change it for the difference in cost. I have never had good luck with a Ford service department. I traded a 2013 Lexus for my 2025 ecoboost Maverick, and I always used Walmart to service my cars. I Specify Mobil One, and that is what they use.

I like full synthetic on a turbocharged engine, but in the manual it does not say it is required, as long as it meets specification WSS-M2C961-A1 for 5W30, or WSS-M2C963-A1 for 0W30 you are fine. How you get them to prove the oil they put in meets those specs is another issue though.
I actually bought some Mobile 1 full synthetic, for the heck of it I Googled the oil and it did not meet those standards!

They charged me for the synth blend. It was a mistake on the service writer but the service manager of the quick lane did everything to convince me to not get it switched out then a there. It was time for them to go. He even inflated the price of the synthetic oil. I do work myself including oil changes but since it was my first thought they would giver the once over. I’m thinking they overcharged on the rotation as well. 48.00 when he said it would be 12 extra dollars. I’ll prob never go back to this dealer. I asked him to have his boss call me to discuss and that was this morning. Still no call back.

You can be like me, change your own oil, and then fail to remove the last filters gasket causing a huge mess and pay for 10 qts of oil instead of 5.....

Yes, it sucks, but you got what you paid for, not what you asked for. It's not the end of the world, don't be a Karen, just change it early yourself next time, and move on... 🤠

I'm curious.
What mobile 1 did you buy that did not meet these specification WSS-M2C961-A1 for 5W30, or WSS-M2C963-A1 for 0W30 ?
According to mobile using their Interactive online app. Their oils meet or exceed the above Ford specifications.

I would take the blend. I've had to do this before, they seem to not want to charge so much for an oil change, my guess is people have yelled at them before about $90 oil changes.

Next time I’m doing it myself

Basically, consider that a 'test', that they Failed to pass.
Don't take it to that location again.
I wouldn't bother with draining/replacing it at this stage.
Just do your next service early, ~3-4k...or 6 months.
And take it somewhere else.

Clearly Ford[/your dealer] doesn't care, and proved they can't process your request. I wouldn't trust them to do it again..
What else are they missing if they can't read that..

Did they reset your Oil life gauge? They missed this when they did mine. But at least they put Synthetic in...at least I paid for it, and thats what was on the invoice.
