Ford is NOT going to drop CarPlay. They believe that this gives them a competitive advantage vs GM, Tesla, and Rivian.
wise man once say, never say never, lest you like the taste of your own words.

Software keeps updating, sometimes exceeding the capabilities of the hardware which requires expensive upgrades to stay in compliance. The manufacturers are not going to keep replacing expensive control units to keep up with Apple/Android when a change is required. Easier and cheaper to discontinue the usage altogether. Ask anybody with a pre-2018 Volvo how well their remote start app works without the required hardware upgrades.

I tried Apple car play once and hated it. It should never have been a thing in the first place, and I will be glad to see it disappear.

Why should it disappear for everyone else, just because you don't like it? It being available doesn't impact you at all if you don't use it.

When I connect my phone, it says "accessory attached." Apple makes all the money on my streaming service, mapping analytics, etc. Ford makes ZERO.

That's why they are dropping support. They can control the ecosystem and charge for it. I also think that is another reason they are dropping the charing pads. If you aren't running carplay/AndroidAuto, no reason to keep your phone charged.

Agreed, except for the induction charging. Great for cooking eggs 🍳 terrible for charging a phone.

It’s an added cost that isn’t necessary

Nah. Not only is there usually always a device that needs charging, it’s not like they’re taking USB connections away, too. It was 100% a cost-cutting decontent that Ford figures they can get away with.

Personally I am totally fine without the charging pad. It’s a horrifically inefficient way to charge, and once I plug my phone in, it stays put because everything I need from Carplay is on the Ford screen.

I was out to breakfast with a couple of friends this morning and I was reading about it on my phone. I’m going to find it in my history and I will copy the link and I will post it on here.
So...... did you find the article yet? Shouldn't take too long to find it.

I'm all for Android auto, but if the car manufacturers can build a better system then they should. My son worked on infotainment systems for GM up until last year.

Oof, that is not something I would want on my resume. GM infotainment systems have long been known as some of the worst in the industry. That's part of the reason why they've been criticized so badly for announcing they were dropping Carplay & Android Auto. No one really believes they are capable of building a good UI. Historically their infotainment systems have been a jumbled, laggy mess.
