My very pregnant daughter had her Subaru drop a valve in the center of Baltimore, in rush hour! It happens. Jeff

We just had our second Maverick lose power while driving on the Freeway.

First Maverick was a 2022 Maverick (XLT Hybrid Luxury Package w/ 24k miles build date February 2022) that lost power while driving on the freeway. We were fortunate to doge a couple lanes and able to pull off to the side. Shut the vehicle off and turned back on and immediately brought to the dealer to get checked out and caught up on a recall. Dealer performed Three recall services 22b39 relating to loose 12 battery connection, 22E09 Update Powertrain Control Module, 23C41 Turn Signal Outage Detection Failure. Haven't had a loss of power since the service was done in early 2024.

Second Maverick was a 2024 Maverick (XL Hybrid 13k miles Build date of February 2024) that lost power on the freeway, pulled over and heard a loud sound and started smoking. We were fortunate to doge a couple lanes and able to pull off to the side. Turned off the engine and got vehicle towed. Dealer said Code P0301 was the only code that showed up which pertained to cylinder 1. They did a compression test on cylinder 1 and no pressure and found the piston was gone or in pieces...they said they found parts of it in the oil pan. Ford replace the long block assembly with no questions asked.

Any other people with multiple Mavericks have have complete loss of power? These occurrences have spooked us and we are swapping the Mavericks out of our fleet. The major concern is that we have already found two ways to lose power while driving on the freeway across two unique vehicles and there are still other know ways for this to happen out there such as Customer Satisfaction Program 23N06 relating to the long block being replace if engine fails. On our 2022 there were also a couple recalls relating to 'if engine fails' there is an increase of fire due to accumulation of engine oil fuel or vapor Recall 22S47 and Recall 22S27.

We really enjoyed the incredible gas mileage and compact size of the Mavericks but in the end we have decided that Safety is a Priority and the Mavericks need to find a new home.
I had power loss early 3/24 soon after having recall 23E09 done. Happened twice, fortunately in light traffic. Ford did a recall to the recall 6/24, 24S33. It has not happened again. It sure was scary!! 23 XLT hybrid.

This is very unfortunate and I definitely understand why you would prefer safety over any mileage advantages. I would say the odds of having one owner with two Mavericks failing power is pretty high.
With the recent state of things, I would say odds are higher than normal to very high.

I don't get the responses where people invent "facts" like "that problem is extremely rare". There isn't a member on this entire site who knows what problems are rare and what problems are common, because none of us have access to Ford's internal records.

The frequency of posts on this site about any given problem is at best a vague indicator.

If your interested in another small truck you may want to inquire about the 2026 Honda Ridgeline , rumor is it will be updated and available in Hybrid and ICE powertrains but maybe late availability 🤷🏻‍♂️
Nope 2026 is basically the same as a 2025 and a Ridgline is a midsize not compact.

My point to the OP was the rumored Hybrid powertrain if that interested him. I could care less about how they are classified, both are still a small unibody truck, not that much difference in size. Fill free to Google the MY26 rumored updates and hybrid powertrain. It all may or may not materialize hence my use of “rumor” based on Google AI and general online info

This sounds crazy...but are you SURE no one (you or your passenger) moved the rotary gear selector out of drive while you were moving???? Stranger things have happened.

"both are still a small unibody truck" ... my other truck is an Acura MDX which is similar platform to the Ridgeline and I hate driving it now because the big V6 uses more than twice as much gas as the Maverick while doing the exact same thing (commuting / hauling / etc). Feels like such a waste.

Interpreting “I’m guessing” as an “invention of a fact” is wrong sorry.

But you are correct in interpreting “I’m guessing” as “at best a vague indicator”.

What is your best guess as to what caused the piston & rings to go? Guesses are like opinions - everybody has one:)

I’ve been putting small pieces of 3M abrasive grip tape on important touchscreen & buttons so I can activate by touch without taking my eyes off road. Have some on my steering wheel “mode” buttons & on my touchscreen AC & fan up/down.

Based on the OP (thanks!) I’m going to put some grip/feel tape on my “Hazard” button & practice hitting it quickly keeping my eyes on the road.

You still can't comprehend my original point to the OP = the rumored "HYBRID" powertrain for the MY26 Ridgeline. For some reason you want to talk about the vehicle class, your mdx, v6 engine, gas and waste.

My 2022 gas engine XLT died at 65mph with only 200 miles on it. The dealer had it for 3 weeks and said it was fixed. The same thing happened six months later. At that point, I initiated a buyback from Ford. It took some time and effort, but Ford did repurchase it, and I ended up with a 24 Tremor that I am very happy with. I did file a report with the NTSB over the issue and I think that gave me some leverage with Ford.

I’m guessing your engine blew from too many beans during the engine break in period - unlike the OO who did a proper Ford break-in:)

Alls well that ends well though. Can’t beat a 24 Tremor!

??

My point is that the 2026 Ridgeline won't be a hybrid, it'll be a regular V6 and will get about half the fuel economy of a Maverick hybrid. To some, those are important considerations when picking a vehicle to buy so I was just pointing it out.
