If I understand you correctly, 2024 with the tow package + hybrid engine isn't that much difference than a 2025?
In 2024, you could not get a hybrid with AWD and/or the 4k tow package. Only starting in '25. The 4k pak requires AWD.

Good Day!

Since they launched - I have been pining after a Maverick of my own. I am still in my very first vehicle, a 2021 HR-V which was more of a purchase of necessity than a strong want. Over the years I've followed the Maverick production issues and pre-order cycles, biding my time until I was in a position where I could purchase one.

I have been looking at Carvana mostly, seeing several XLs and XLTs becoming available with decent mileage and manageable price point ($26-$28k). The years range from 2022-2024, with 2025s being out of my desired range. I have also considered purchasing with a buddy of mine who is going to buy himself a new F-150 in the next month or so - he exclusively shops online across a multi-state range to find the best deal, he seems to think we could get a deal on a 2025 at the same time.

Does anyone have any advice? As it pertains to the following:
  • Have you purchased from Carvana?
  • Is a used Maverick worth buying if the price point is within $5k of a new one? I will be financing.
  • What year is the best Maverick if not a 2025 (I found a nice 2022 Lariat but it has several recalls on it.)
  • What should I know about my first Maverick?
Thank you all, first post here so if I violated any forum rules my apologies!
Welcome to the Maverick Truck Club forum from Alaska!

I'm probably biased as my 2025 Ford Maverick Lariat Hybrid AWD has been trouble free but I only have 1,166 miles on it. When I started looking, I planned on getting a Maverick XLT Hybrid.

Please post pictures when you get your new Maverick. :camera:

My '23 hybrid is the first new car I've ever owned (I'm 50yrs old now).

I do not recommend long finance or "just barely make the payments". I would recommend getting cheaper used vehicles instead of throwing lots of money at the bank.

Hybrid gets better gas mileage. If you're towing lots and frequently, go Ecoboost.

  • Have you purchased from Carvana?
I purchased w/ Carvana and overall, it was just okay. My biggest complaint is that it seemed that if you don't finance thru them, then things get tricky and there are lot of phone calls that could be handled by emails. I purchased in June around Junteenth, the national (i.e. Bank) holiday and they gave me five days to get proof of the loan in but 3 of those days were not business days. I found it very amateurish that they were not on top of the calendar that way. I got a few phone calls asking for information that I had already submitted thru their website like proof of insurance, IDs, etc. When you're purchasing, there is this check list in your account of things to be done, and in spite of fulfilling one of those, it wouldn't go away. It never became a problem, but it was stressful as I wasn't sure if it would become a problem in spite of folks on the phone saying don't worry about it. Sure, they would tell me that over the phone, but it wasn't in writing. They finally gave me a delivery date, but then delayed it by a day, but the car was fine and delivered by a very professional driver.

One other thing about Carvana is that there is no down payment, but there can be (and probably always is) a $2000 non-refundable delivery fee. Sure, you can get your money back within a week of delivery, but you won't get that two grand back. In spite of all that, it was nice to just pick what I wanted w/o having to talk to a usedcar salesman.

  • Is a used Maverick worth buying if the price point is within $5k of a new one? I will be financing.
I bought used mainly because I didn't want Sync4 as I wanted knobs for certain things, but having to plug in for Android auto kind of sucks. I got a '23 hybrid lariat w/ less than 11k miles for about the same price as an equally equipped '25 XLT. I wanted comfy features like premium sound, and a (drop in) bedliner, trifold tonneau cover and even the bed extender, but I didn't care about AWD or 4K tow much less FX4, Tremor or Lobo packages or versions.

Again, I like the smaller screen, and I can control my heater and volume with knobs, but even for those 25 Mavs, there are probably steering wheel control buttons for volume.

Regarding financing, I was a bit nervous so I purchased a three-year warranty, but that pushes the loan price up and often your interest rate is based on how much you borrow versus what the bank thinks the car is worth. The warranty pushed that number up for me, but not into the danger zone rate wise, but now that I have the car, I do somewhat regret getting that warranty. It really does seem like a fine car, but we'll see.

  • What should I know about my first Maverick?
I don't mind using native satellite radio and native navigation around town while Bluetooth lets me make calls on my phone. When I'm on the road, then I plug the phone in and use Android Auto, so getting a 25 might be important to you for that. Also, I've heard that satellite radio is not just for the Lariat anymore. Many complain that the plastic on the door panels are cheap and the bottle holders in the door don't work, but I think that the Mav is good where it needs to be: controls, lighting, Steering wheel, wipers, HVAC and radio.

That's all that comes to mind for the moment. Let me know if I can clarify.

5K difference = just order a new one, you can probably get a better financing rate thru Ford, you get 3/36k instead of possibly paying for an extended warranty. In that the '25s are priced similar to the '26s you might want to see what 25s are on the local dealers lots in a month or two as they will be losing value in that you can get a '26 for about the same price as a 25 so use your best bargaining skills - no harm to seeing if you can get a new one for some discount.

Everyone talking about going with the 2025 makes a great point! I think I still have the mindset of when I was looking back when the Mav was harder to get and fulfillment was taking such a long time - that I have to settle for a used one. Every time I went to a dealership they would say the price on the site was before the dealer markup and that left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

As it stands this is my first Ford vehicle. Looking forward to it. Anyone bought from Planet Ford out in Texas?
I bought a 2024 XLT hybrid in April, not used, new off the lot. I went with 24 because I do not like the looks of the grill on the 2025s and I wanted real buttons and knobs for radio and climate controls. The 25's have a bigger screen, but all controls are on the tough screen and I really dont like that. I went with XLT because I wanted heated seats and the fold down console in the rear seat. if going for the basics XL may be good enough. The lariats have a lot of bells and whistles that I would never use such as adaptive cruise control, etc. I just could not spend the extra money for stuff that I would/may never use. So the XLT was good enough.
We are averaging 45 MPG and could not be happier with the truck.

I added a cap, bed mat and ramp for my 9 year old pups. Makes a perfect dog hauler!

One thing I would do differently is to get a headliner in the cap. The A.R.E is a bit rough on the inside.

I cannot speak to Carvana, so sorry about that.

Like others said if the difference is 5k in my case even 7k get a new one, you get a trouble free one, full warranty, better financing, I would wait for the 26, never dealt with myself but granger have good prices and the extended warranty is a good deal with them too.

If you ask me the hybrid AWD with 4k pckg is a must, and even if you don't used that much the resale value is gonna be better.

Good luck with your search, And post those pics as soon as you get it.

Not if he wants a hybrid. 2025s with improved CV axles and brand new HF55 and sync 4 are well worth the price increase.

Good deal. I also waited years to order one as I had a perfectly good 17 year old Tundra that just kept trucking. Finally at 245k miles it started leaking oil and I took that as my queue to pull the trigger on a new Maverick.

Generally agree with other folks that if your within $4k or 5k, it would probably be wise to go with the 25. I never owned a 22-24 but I do know that synch 4 on the 25’s is awesome lol. That being said, I do slightly prefer the 22-24 front end and if you wanted the more upgraded components like adaptive cruise, upgraded seats, heated steering wheel/seats etc…it might be worth it to try and find a older and cheaper used one. But to be honest, most of the used Lariats seem to still be pretty high.

You mentioned thoughts on a dealership. Here’s a running list of dealerships, members reviews, recommendations or bad experiences.

In July, I sold my 22 EB Lariat to Carvana for 26k with 30k miles. Paid 28,700. They appear to have sold it in one week for 29,900. I bought a 25 EB Ruby Red XLT with luxury package, 4k towing and 360.1 Blis package for 30,500. Note this was with a 750 cash certificate, employee pricing, and 1K rebate from Granger Ford for financing with them at 6.34 percent. I transferred the loan to my local credit union at 4.99.

It entirely depends on whether your credit will allow you to get a decent loan rate. Carvana rates are a bit high I believe and used Mavericks also seem to be pretty high. If you can swing it, go with the 25, IMHO. If you just need basic needs, you cannot go wrong with the XL.

Good luck and lets us know what you get!!!!

I noticed that you stated that one of the vehicles you looked at had several recalls. If that's the only thing standing between you and the vehicle, That shouldn't be a deterrent. The recalls are free. So if you buy it, simply take it to the dealership and get them done.
