Good Day!

Since they launched - I have been pining after a Maverick of my own. I am still in my very first vehicle, a 2021 HR-V which was more of a purchase of necessity than a strong want. Over the years I've followed the Maverick production issues and pre-order cycles, biding my time until I was in a position where I could purchase one.

I have been looking at Carvana mostly, seeing several XLs and XLTs becoming available with decent mileage and manageable price point ($26-$28k). The years range from 2022-2024, with 2025s being out of my desired range. I have also considered purchasing with a buddy of mine who is going to buy himself a new F-150 in the next month or so - he exclusively shops online across a multi-state range to find the best deal, he seems to think we could get a deal on a 2025 at the same time.

Does anyone have any advice? As it pertains to the following:
  • Have you purchased from Carvana?
  • Is a used Maverick worth buying if the price point is within $5k of a new one? I will be financing.
  • What year is the best Maverick if not a 2025 (I found a nice 2022 Lariat but it has several recalls on it.)
  • What should I know about my first Maverick?
Thank you all, first post here so if I violated any forum rules my apologies!

Big changes for the 2025s regardless of hybrid or EB.

In addition to the upgrades you would also get the new full factory warranties (and not the balance of or nothing at all).

sounds like you might finance? If so new vehicle rates are generally cheaper than used vehicle rates.

Used car market is still elevated for prices.

Putting all of those together I would spend the extra money to get into a 2025.

Agree with @710-oil-614... if you are within $5k, there is probably that much value in the upgraded infotainment and full warranty of a 2025 vs. anything older. And I am saying that, having bought a year-old used one. :D

Recalls are a minor PITA, but nothing to be afraid of, especially on Ecoboosts or 2025-up hybrids.

If you like 2025s, the biggest choice for you is really the engine. The trucks have similar capabilities for 2025, but can be very different in terms of efficiency - so it really depends on your mindset.

Thanks for the quick responses - my Maverick will be an every day vehicle for me, so the hybrid is my preferred engine. It will be a commuter/weekend warrior vehicle.

If a warranty is still intact on a 2024, what are your thoughts on that?

Sounds like it's a financial stretch for you? Look up Money Guy car buying 20-3-8. Putting 20% down, paying your car off in 3 years, and keeping your monthly payment at or below 8% of your gross income. As for your buddy's "brand new F-150" doesn't sound too smart unless he sitting on loads of cash. But hey, if you can keep a car 20 years well maintained, it all works out.

Yes, go with 25 (or 26!). I ordered by building at Ford and taking that sheet to the dealer to confirm the OTD price during employee pricing, but some dealers are offering discounts now as well, from the place I bought it from to bigger dealers like the famous Long McArthur Ford (their YouTube channel is great as a resource).

Back to the 2025, the EB engine at least is different - again, check YT to see how its laid out differently and what component upgrades were made - and Sync 4, as I understand it, is a big upgrade. I would be hesitant to start a new loan today for an outdated infotainment system. Also the base sound system sounds great to me on Sync 4, which saved me a few bucks.

As others have said, your APR is going to be lower on a new model, the warranty is going to be fresh, and you're just going to have a better support experience from a good dealer. And in the current environment where used vehicles are still quite expensive, it's just not a good tradeoff unless you cannot get what you want at all in the new market.

EDIT: I do not know if Hybrid engine layout is different in 2025, but YT is again your friend. Deep Sleep issues scared me off of that one, but if you drive more, it may not be a concern for you.

Everyone talking about going with the 2025 makes a great point! I think I still have the mindset of when I was looking back when the Mav was harder to get and fulfillment was taking such a long time - that I have to settle for a used one. Every time I went to a dealership they would say the price on the site was before the dealer markup and that left me with a bad taste in my mouth.

As it stands this is my first Ford vehicle. Looking forward to it. Anyone bought from Planet Ford out in Texas?

If you’re set on a hybrid then you should only go with a 2025 unless whichever used hybrid you look at can prove it has the upgraded CV axles installed.

The MY25 introduced the Hybrid with optional 4K Tow capability, which what I was looking for. If you don't need both, you can look for used hybrids or the EcoBoost (EB) that have the 4K tow package. Otherwise, the changes were largely cosmetic.

If I understand you correctly, 2024 with the tow package + hybrid engine isn't that much difference than a 2025?

You can only tow 2k pounds with the 2024 Hybrid. If you want to tow up to 4k you need the Ecoboost engine in the 2024. The 2025 Hybrid with AWD AND the 4k tow package can tow up to 4k. The AWD and Tow package will cost extra, so you will need to decide if the cost is worth it. For me it was. As to time to get, I custom ordered a Lariat at the beginning of July and it is scheduled to be delivered at the end of the month, so wait times are WAY down.

If you can wait a few months for the 26s you could probably get a deal on the 25.

The changes were most definitely not just largely cosmetic.

Hybrids have a brand new transmission - HF55 - with two new more powerful electric motors as well as updated CV axles, and they also have sync 4 replacing garbage connected touch radio and sync 3.

Ecoboost engines are brand new.
