Good point. Although a smooth skid plate is better than than one with holes.

But hopefully we can both agree that the air rising up through the plastic cover scoop cools both the hot PTU and the red hot Turbo:)
I can't say you are wrong but the scoop is definitely added to cool the PTU. The correction was given in good faith. A lot of people, including myself, rely on this board for accurate info. I have been wrong before and will be again.

My first point was maybe a little petty. I am a 2024 owner and super happy 2025 owners trigger me slightly lol. Just because it seems as though some of them think their 2025's are just vastly superior to the first generation Mavericks. Maybe that is all in my head.....lol.

1) I said plate/cover to be all inclusive.

2) PTU’s don’t need cooling. Any heat the PTU in the Maverick feels is the 1000 degree turbo sitting up above it. The turbo is air & water cooled. Still gets pizza oven hot. PTU maybe gets hot enough to warm your biscuits.

3) Thanks! Fun club
They need cooling when they're being worked hard, thats why the Tremor has one. Its the reason the Tremor has a 4x4 lock button and the FX4 does not. I mean it probably 99% of use cases an FX4 isn't going to hit temperature protection on the PTU, but the fluid will certainly take more of a beating over time.

Yes, even though engines are never said to be oil cooled, they are. Oil transfers combustion chamber/piston heat to the block, etc. Lubricating and cooling are two of the functions of oil.

Functions of oil in an engine:
  • Lubricate
  • Cool
  • Clean
  • Seal
  • Transfer power (as a hydraulic fluid)
Technically though, "cooling" is just another way of describing the exchange of heat energy.
I understand about the engine🥱, I just never knew about the turbo being water AND oil cooled!

Well, the bearings are lubricated with oil just like the bearings in the engine, so...

You’re right - I’m wrong. It is a PTU scoop not a turbo scoop.

As an obnoxious overly excited 2025 owner I truly apologize.
It less about you being obnoxious and more about me still being slightly bitter at Ford for making my '24 Maverick the "old" Maverick lol.

The Hybrid and EB have a different cover.
My 25 hybrid had the scoop in the cover

I removed it, filled in part of the opening and installed a “door” to remove during oil changes, also added a door for the filter

My ‘25 Maverick will be “old” soon enough. The ‘28 next generation guys will definitely get on my nerves 😬

Scoop is pointing for the AWD's - that's why you had more than just an opening us FWD folks get.
Whole 5 cents for that thing probably.

My first introduction to plates under the engine was the F150 with the drain under the oil filter. If they did not wipe it clean, it would eventually drip onto my driveway. My next was the plastic skid plate on the wife's Honda CRV. Did a long trip to the east coast and it popped off on one side in New Brunswick. We ended up at a reliable dealer who reattached it instead of saying needed to be replaced. I really don't like things that need to be removed and reattached for oil changes. Seems that the plastic plugs they use will loosen up over time and the plate pops off. Although not too often, I have seen cars with hanging plates. Not looking forward to seeing how my Hybrid works out with its plate.

I have a Focus with the shield mounted the same way as the Maverick. In the 152,000 miles I've driven it I've had no isses with the plastic nut inserts, because I only snug the screws up by hand with a screwdriver. If they are overtightened, eventually they will strip and the screws will loosen.

Ah...Baldwin .....the Elvis of filters !

Back in the 80's and 90's I worked for a Baldwin distributor here in Central California .
Baldwin brought in a private jet and flew a few of us salesman back to the factory in Kearney Nebraska.

Nice meal at a country club , nice hotel , and then .....OPEN BAR ... OMG...
The next morning , too bright and early was the factory tour .
It was rough with a hangover ....the noise , the smell of machines , and even though it was February ( in Nebraska !) the factory doors were open because of the heat .
You could tell all the factory workers hated the " tours" ... Theyre making minimum wage ....in a factory ....and the company was throwing us a " Party" ....

....enough rambling ....

That's a pretty interesting little side story. I noticed the big ol' Baldwin filter on the OP's vehicle, and I live just a few hours away from Kearney where (Parker Hannifin?) still has a large facility.

Kinda veering off topic, but after not being super impressed by the amount of excess glue all over the OE Motorcraft filters (Mann Hummel / Wix) I was kinda trying to figure out if there is a better made in US filter to use long term.

I suppose Ford has gone to one design for both now. I know the 22/23 had different part numbers.
