Has anyone done an oil change yet? I read in another post that if you have an FX4 that you need to take off the skid plate to do an oil change; there is no access panel, opening, etc.

I crawled under the Mav today to see what the openings are on my XL "felt skid plate". If you have not seen it yet, its a felt-like material that covers the underside of the engine area. It seems to be the same fuzzy material that you will see in the wheel wells.

Looks like the felt cover will be to be removed for an oil change, just like on the FX4. I counted about 18 screws that need to be removed to do this.

Looking at it has given me an idea: That "felt skid plate" could serve as a template for someone that wants to fabricate a skid plate for their Maverick.

Photos attached. Threw in a pic of the exhaust just because I was down there anyway.

I changed my oil yesterday for the first time at 5,373 miles. I used OEM oil filter which is longer than the one they used from the factory. I will be buying filter from the dealer so I at least have some kind of record for oil change.
I used Mobil1 0W-20 which meets Ford's specs. Will be keeping a good written record for warranty purposes just in case.
I know it's been mentioned here but nothing to worry about cat converter theft. It's way up there between the engine and fire wall.
I used to just use a hydraulic jack for my other cars. I had to buy a ramp for the Maverick because of that shield. Did an oil change on three vehicles yesterday using a ramp for the first time. I like it.

I changed the oil in my Maverick a couple of days ago, at 1000 miles. I also installed my Ford mud flaps at the same time.
I did come across an odd feature on my Maverick-the engine hood lever can't be pulled with the driver's door closed. The lever makes contact with the door panel.
Design flaw or safety feature?
