I just noticed this yesterday. The front passenger seatbelt appears to be sawing through the plastic trim surrounding it. The truck is a 2023 (Lariat Hybrid, if that matters) with just under 18,000 miles. Pretty sure I’ve only had a passenger for maybe 30% of those miles. It looks like the only way that would run is if the passenger pulled the seatbelt straight out (forward) and then across the body. Has anybody else seen something like this? I know this is a cheesy plastic panel on a discount truck, but I’ve never encountered this before. It’s going to the dealer this week for some warranty work, so I’ll mention it to them, but this is a new one for me!

Woah! I'll take a look at my truck soon just out of curiosity, but can't say I've seen that before.

Edit: Checked both sides on my truck and there's no damage to the trim surrounding the belt.

I have a 2023 Lariat Hybrid with 15K miles and my trim isn't being cut by the seatbelt. My wife slides her seat almost all the way back and the seat belt height adjustment all the way up. I think that keeps it from cutting the trim.

No problems on my Lariat at 9700 miles and almost 21 months. However, my 42 year old Mustang convertible has been doing this forever. It no longer gets any worse.

Hmmm. This is unlikely to inspire a recall from Ford

Tell your passenger to stop pulling the seat belt in and out feeling the bumps

I would think in order for this to happen. The seatbelt would have to be stretched out and pulled against the plastic obviously.

Are you a bigger person if you don’t mind me asking? I don’t see how this is physically impossible unless the seatbelt was being pushed beyond its range. Did you try pushing the seatbelt mechanism to the top?

That is reportedly the passenger seat, but I was going to ask the same question. It's odd that it's getting damaged in the outboard direction. Seems like something is keeping the belt pushed way out, whether it is a girthy passenger, someone sitting funny (like taking a nap against the door?) or bulky cargo buckled into the seat.

It’s definitely odd. This weekend I observed my wife putting on the passenger seatbelt, with no idea still how this would rub. She’s a normal sized person who (like a normal person) pulls the seatbelt across the body and then down to buckle it. Any other passengers that this could have been from have each been in the truck maybe 2-3x each, so it’s hard to believe that something like this could come from such limited use. I’ll see what the dealer says when I take it in this week.

AT’s what I figured, it happens when a big boy gets under the belt.

You might try adjusting the height of the upper belt.
