Don't listen to others - you cannot just get any old push rivets from Amazon - they have to be the right size, diameters, length, etc.

I had the same issue. I just replaced all of them for a uniform look. This is my July 8, 2025 post from a Maverick Facebook group:

"Last week I asked about OEM replacements for the push type plastic rivets for the tailgate top trim. I got what I thought were some pretty snarky comments. Putting mismatched parts that don't fit may be ok for some of you but not for me.
Besides, getting an assorted box of push type rivets as some suggested would have likely been a waste of money. The OEM rivets are for a 7mm hole with a head diameter of no more than 15mm. Most assorted packs don't have that size.
The OEM rivets are a single use rivet and once pushed in the only way to get them out is to break them.
I found these 15mm/7mm push type rivets with the Phillips-looking head on Amazon and they do a great, OEM looking, job.

Thank you! I just had a factory one fall out. I’ve ordered these to replace.

They look like something that could be factory, fit perfectly, and don't fall out, half a year now.

Found this thread because I just noticed this morning one of my rivets had disappeared, and quickly became very frustrated by all the misinformation on part numbers out there- THE W722558S300 IS NOT THE SAME PART though maybe it does indeed fit.

Anyway, it's been a few months since you posted/put these Phillips-head fasteners on your tailgate; I was wondering whether or not you're still happy with them now that they've been in service on your Maverick for a while.

I haven't even thought about them, so I just went out to look and take a picture. They haven't moved a millimeter. They are the right diameter for aesthetics and the right length to fit securely.

To me they look like they could have been OEM.

Edit to add.... They are still press fit, they just look like Phillips head.

This one sure looks like it.

I know, factory OEM parts are ridiculous as far as price.
I like your option better. but some members only insist on OEM replacement parts.
I offered "cubelodyte" that option.

Not sure I follow. It's similar, but definitely not the same:

Edit: I get your point; thanks. I do prefer OEM but at the price point and given the fact I'm suspicious now a Ford replacement might just fall out, I'll probably go the third-party route.

One thought: I wonder if the mystery rivet we've all been chasing isn't in production anymore and has been replaced by the W722558S300 because the original ones have been found to vibrate out? Sort of an in damnatio memoriae sort of deal.

I just took the picture of my23 not 15 minutes ago.
That's what is OEM on my Maverick.
And it corresponds with the part number, picture and description.
Maybe they've changed them in production.

Thanks! It's always nice to get the story after things have been used for a while.

I'm beginning to think Ford has indeed pulled a switcheroo.

I noticed a week or so ago that one of mine, in the same location, had fallen out.
Where are all the lemon law advocates? ;)

I'm going to order a bag of the phillips type posted above - 33 cents a piece seems like a bargain!
