I had a new one on my 22 xlt ecoboost fx4 this morning. As I was pulling out of my driveway with the truck in drive it threw an error message on the dash that read “press clutch to start vehicle”. I couldn’t get my phone out fast enough to take a picture. Anyone else ever seen this?

wouldn't surprise me, some of ford software code is written all over the world, probably a lot in India but it just as well been some old code overlooked written in the USA.

Welcome back Chris. We haven't seen you in a few years since the whole 70 mph thing. Have you done any messing around in Forscan in past three years?

I had that pop up on my 23 XLT FX4 about three weeks ago. Hasn't happened again.

I'm still trying to push the clutch down myself sometimes. Give your Mav a brake.

I haven’t. I’ve continued to have problem after problem with my maverick as one of the early production models. So when it came out of the 3 year 36k warranty I ordered a 25 hybrid AWD lariat w/ 4k. (Should go into production next week) I love the maverick as a vehicle, but hate the one I have. Hoping that the next one will be a better experience.

A lot of times, we software engineers use string lookups. We have a table of strings indexed by some key. Then in our code we'll do something like DisplayText(key_start-warning). It's so easy for somebody to use the wrong key, or for somebody to change the text associated with that key in the lookup table (both cardinal programming sins).

It gets really crazy when you have 100+ or even 1000+ engineers sharing the same code via a version control system. Even crazier when they are scattered all over the planet. More crazy when you have translations of that lookup table into multiple languages. Even crazier when that code is versioned to support multiple products or multiple versions of the same product. Even crazier when the well paid team managing that code gets fired to control costs, then replaced by H1Bs or aforementioned planet-wide-low-cost-employees. Who just go in and start hacking away without understanding.

Sometimes I watch in amazement that the truck doesn't do a Putin when I approach (explode).

In understandable terms, the reason that many software applications are so large is that it is a common practice to not erase a bad subroutine that does not work right, but just add a skip to skip over it and maybe finally erase it when software is released. Oftentimes they write software to cover all available features and can edit so that desired features are used and just skip over the unused features and go to a routine that will work as needed. It is possible for a "Burp" or noise spike induced into the system to cause the skip to not be seen and if not just a warning that can be reset it could hang up the program until it is restarted. Automotive software is well written so minor things do not shut the vehicle down, so be glad that you could drive on and not have to turn the vehicle off and restart it to get things running right which is just a reboot..

So weird how some have issues others don’t. My uncle got one of the very first produced mavericks he had 60k on it and not one single issue. Then other like your have them. Other than that I have nothing to add.
