What is abstract about it?
People say the Maverick is no longer a good buy. I want to know what they think is a better buy than the Maverick that can do the same things the Maverick can do.
If the Maverick is lousy, what is the better alternative?
First of all I didn’t say it was lousy. It started out as a no frills hybrid vehicle for a no frills price at a time (2021) when gas prices were through the roof. It was a bargain. Ford dirtied the brand by jacking the price almost 10k in 4 iterations without essentially adding any value to the vehicle. And now they’re talking about tariffs increasing the price yet again, when anyone who has done ANY research about tariffs knows they will LIKELY not affect vehicles from Mexico or Canada. Your assumption that EVERYONE bought it because they wanted/needed a small truck is erroneous. Again: hybrid vehicle designed to appeal to a huge segment of the population(especially those without much money) with a bargain price when gas prices were extortionate. I didn’t buy a “truck” I bought a cheap hybrid. lt’s still made cheaply, but not priced that way. If you want a better hybrid truck, have disposable income, time and patience, I’m sure there’s a bargain to be had somewhere. Of course it might require a road trip. I had to go to Memphis to get my dream car, paid 60% of the MSRP, 10 year bumper to bumper warranty.

I didn't assume anything. I asked a question. You still haven't answered the question. What is the better alternative to Maverick (for whatever reason)? What is the clean good buy?

it's classic case of bitching without an alternative. everything is more expensive now. there's no question the Maverick isn't the deal it once was, but there's still nothing comparable.

The base Maverick was originally priced at a loss, and they sold way more than they anticipated. While the base price has gone up about 9k, when you take inflation into account since that 2021 announcement that number looks more like a 5k increase. The volatility of the tariff situation right now makes costs unpredictable. When Ford doesn't know what they'll be in four months, they have to price things for the worst case scenario.

I think you'll find your opinions on the tariff situation aren't universal, but regardless Ford's bottom line can't rely on what some folks think is "likely" -- they have to be ready and they need to sell the trucks at a profit.

But right now you're not going to find a vehicle with this kind of capability and fuel efficiency for a better price. It doesn't exist.

If it's made cheaply why did you buy it?

No, I would not buy any Ford again.
I have a 2023 Maverick Lariat. I just reached 10,000 miles. Only drive it now for Family tote, Church mission and maintenance needs. Product misrepresented by Ford Corporation and mislead dealership. As a luxury lariat It does not have Adaptive Cruise Control and no dealership is smart enough to install it. So if you have it better how it does not break.😢🤓

I assume you had a '22 lariat lux on order and it rolled into a '23?

Unlike many people who complained it was cheaply made in its first iteration, I didn’t expected a vehicle at a bargain price to have burled wood dash, and luxury leather seats. I thought it was ridiculous the XL didn’t have cruise control which is pretty standard on most vehicles, but my only real objection were all the extremely tedious colours.

Well unlike people who rely solely on propaganda, my “opinion“ is based on current, rather reluctant research. I used the word “likely” because it was stated that those tariffs wouldn’t apply; however everything is subject to change. As for Ford‘s bottom line, or any other carmaker, the bottom line is how much they can gouge out of their customer.
It’s also interesting that inflation hasn’t affected the price of the EV I bought in 2021. It’s still the same price, of course that will no doubt change in 2025 because it will be made in China, and no doubt tariffs WILL apply. The only thing that affected the price of my EV is that in 2022 most EV tax credits were gone with the wind.
Now if you mean you won’t find a hybrid “truck” that sips gas as well as the Maverick, that’s probably true at the current time. However you could probably find a better truck, or alternatively a better quality and cheaper hybrid. But the answer to the original question; I wouldn’t buy it again. It doesn’t work for me personally and it’s no longer the cheapest hybrid out there. And why this should cause people to get their knickers in a knot, I don’t know. If people have disposable income to fritter away, and it works for them, and they like it, let them go hog wild, it’s their constitutional right.

Why would I buy it again? I already own it!
this.

if someone tries to sell me my maverick, I'll set up the meeting--and send an undercover cop in my place!

Are you a bot? And a long-winded one at that.
