Not the most secure from theft, but definitely the most affordable I could come up with.

I'm off on my first adventure. We'll see how this set up handles a bumpy road.

Why wouldn't you just lay the bike down in the bed? Catty-corner, could probably close the TG.

Good lord man, does that bike have the FX4 package? Look at the mud...
I can also imagine the mud thrown up the back and the front of the rider since the bike has no fenders.

Even tied down hard like that I have a feeling a sharp turn would tip the bike. I would think a tailgate bike pad would be more secure.

Went on a nice ride. There and back was mix of highway, byway and dirt road. The simple system held up fine. No tips, no hops.

That said, clearly not a long term solution. As one poster said, if you hit bump unexpectedly the physics are not in your favor.

Just grab one of these from Amazon or the local shop...paint a 2x4 sized for the slots, and BAM!

Can you explain or show a pic on how this would work. I am looking for a quick way to secure bike in bed while driving to bike routes.

I edited my post with the FORD DIY.

I used this same setup with my 1997 Dodge Dakota...the flex bed ain't as NEW as Ford Marketing would suggest.

Thanks. I may end up doing that.

Was hoping for a quick way without detaching front tire. But this does add some security.

OP, your gonna bend the shit out of your frame that way. It's also not gonna handle a sideways turn that well. If you want to do a strap like that, look up motorcycle strapping. It won't be as safe as motorcycles have front shocks but it's a heck of a lot more sturdy that what you got going on..

I plan on using the flexbed slots for some 2x4's and then securing some THULE bike racks to them.

I don't like the idea of removing the front wheel and a full bike rack is a PITA to take off and put on. Hopefully with a 2X4 replacing the crossbars I'll be able to figure out an in-bed bike rack system.

I will be interested in what you come up with as well. Appreciate if you post it. Thx!
