I’m not trying to sound like an ass but have you considered another approach?

This worked for me, I was a tractor trailer driver. I logged 2.0 million miles.
I was having problems like your describing.
I lost 42 pounds and got my abs in shape.
I strengthened my abs, obliques and quads and got into a regular routine of stretching.
After a month I was comfortable sitting my whole day in the saddle.
My Maverick lariat seats are very comfortable to me.
I was 202 pounds now 160. I’m good
Its something I am actively working on. The core issue for me though is that I havent had this problem in any other car ive owned. (and ive owned over 20 at this point) Something in the seat geometry or design is just not good for my back. I am sure the additional back exercise and core strengthening WILL help (and I am doing it), but it probably wont fix the core issue.

Thanks for this information. My biggest complaint is the power seat will raise or lower but no tilt. I would like support under my thighs. Raising the seat just makes it higher but doesn't help.
I 2nd this reply, excellent point.

I can't do the washer lift at the front as my wife's seating position would be affected negatively as she is vertically challenged.

Our Crosstrek had the tilt function...the only good thing about that seat for me (that is the car I needed the tailbone cushion for, and lumbar spring mesh thing), just to make it tolerable.

But, a great, cheap and easy suggestion.

I added washers under the front bolts of the rails in order to lift the front edge of the seat. I think I raised it about 1/2" which made a big difference in comfort for me and cost about $2.25 and 6 minutes. I used 3 of these on each side.

I could see that helping quite a lot. I typically sit in what one of my friends likes to call "Birthing position" where I angle the whole seat back. Its how I drive my Jetta.

that sounds terrible for your back, but if it works for you then go for it.

before raising the front, first try lowering the seat as low as it goes, regardless of where you prefer to be for head/ride height. that creates a position like what you described and I find it extremely uncomfortable. (and I've owned an Evo 8 that had Recaro seats.)

That is how I have been using it. I tried sitting higher on a flatter seat didnt seem to help, but then I can try it again. I think the core isssue is that the lumbar support is in the wrong spot for me.

Maybe try changing the distance to pedals and recline angle. Sitting too far back is a sure way to cause back/hip pain.

I went through a similar process 3 years and 57k miles ago. I am fairly confident you didn't give the raised seat bottom enough time because you prefer the lower position in other vehicles, because that's what I did also.

I learned pretty quickly, though. After 10-20 hours of driving, I brought my seat up much higher than I would have it in any vehicle with adjustable seats that fully articulate, instead of just pivoting like the Maverick front seats. It's far more comfortable than the seat cushion angle you get when it's all the way down.

Anyway, raising the front even more might not be your answer.

I had to stop on 1st long trip and bought a faux sheepskin large about 16” square) and very thick (8”) home decorator pillow from Target home department. Immediate relief- felt like sitting on a cloud and also gave better line of sight - felt like an over the road trucker. Even after the butt pain from my then recent procedure was gone I have kept this $30 pillow in place for improved comfort. Getting in requires some extra climb up and in effort to keep it in position but I just drove it 2900 miles over 8 consecutive days with no seating comfort issues ( or any others). Definitely worth trying.
I wasn't really having issues with the XLT seats but I bought these and love them. Very comfortable. Plus they match the Eruption Green exterior better than the black and blue. The pillows are little fu fu but I'm secure in my manhood :sunglasses: :like:

As @Sovande said, I’ve personally found raising the front edge for better thigh support is very helpful. If the washers approach doesn’t give enough angle, there is a product out there (seat jackers) that include the hardware to raise even further. I ended up DIYing something similar.

As far as the “lumbar support in the wrong spot” issue goes, it would be pretty invasive to adjust that. Would need to pull off the upper upholstery, foam, and drill new mount holes in the side of the frame. In case you were wondering.

I don't make Seat Jacker money so I settled for the washers.

the front is fixed, or something very near it.

when you raise and lower the seat height whether it's the mechanical pump handle or you have a power motor, the rear of the seat rises but the front really doesn't change.

this causes a change in the seat bottom angle. if you have the seat really low, the high front is super uncomfortable for most people. so, even if you're tall or just like a lower driving position like I do (I'm only 6'0") I would raise the seat enough to make the seat bottom cushion closer to level.

the opposite happens if a short person raises the seat very high. past a certain point, the seat bottom actually is more than level and it feels like you're sliding forward... because you are.

people complain about the easily scuffed interior plastics, but I think the worst thing Ford did in the Maverick in the name of cost savings is this terrible seat height adjustment.
I agree, my old 09 escape hybrid had separate height adjustments for the front and back of the seat. That was great. Miss it in both my 25 maverick, and 23 escape phev.

If you need anything adjustable lumbar support such as I had in post #9, they are cheap, effective, easy to adjust and easily moved to a 2nd vehicle or left to right seat.

This is to buy in Canada, your price should be lower. Cheap investment in your comfort.

Hope this helps,

Andy
