I have a 2024 Lariat (just in case that matters) and I think I figured it out. Yesterday, I noticed a light on the AC button. I pushed AC button and it went off. I didn't feel any cold air. My wife got warm so I pressed the AC button and cool air came out. Today, it was 73. I set the temperature to LO and turned off the AC light. No cool air. It seems weird that it worked because Ford even told me it was impossible, but give it a shot.

You have. 👍
Whoever told you from Ford was absolutely wrong.👎
You will never get absolutely outside ambient Air Temperature through the vents. The ductwork the area where the air is drawn from maybe warmer or colder. That will affect the air that's being discharged from the vents.
Here's an example
Manually push the upper vent button.
Set your temperature selector to hotter or colder than the Ambient Air Temperature.
Turn off the AC button if it illuminates.
Adjust your fan speed to your liking.

If you set a temperature lower than the Ambient Air Temperature your fan speed may increase on its own and it's possible the AC button may even come on, especially if humidity is involved

Fresh air is controlled by the recirculation, not necessarily AC. Lighted means recirculate. Not lighted is fresh air. Turing the AC off might also turn off recirculation which makes it seem like the AC is controlling the recirculation.

I run mine all the time,

Temperature to Lo (lowest) and AC off.
And (this is important) recirculate off.

Normal (about) ambient air vents just like any other vehicle.
Thank you - just wondered that on another thread.

I never thought to go that low - figured the system would throw the AC on automatically.

I thought I observed last fall if my inside setting was within some degrees of outside (since I had no current inside temp) it would leave AC off.
Perhaps it required a fan speed below a certain point too.

The REAL annoyance is the damn over-ride that will turn on the AC no matter what if the cabin humidity gets too high. I hate machines that think they know better....🤬

Never happens in the SW so I wouldn't know.

If interested you can use an OBD scanner to pull feed for either a) the a/c line pressure or b) the a/c power draw.

Either will tell you when the compressor cycles on while experimenting with the HVAC.

I would like to know how to close the dash vents. My Escape had a vertical knob that closed the vents, no such thing on the Mav. Mine leak air nearly all the time (I run the controls on auto)... Moving the register to the right (or left) almost closes, but air still leaks thru the vents.

The way you described above is the only way to close them.
Unless you want to put duct tape across them, but probably not.

My GF has allergies and gets REALLY annoyed when the Recirc mode goes off on its own. She says she would NEVER buy a Ford due to gross defects like this in the software, and I get it. It's rather annoying to me too.

You may want to consider something like this. 👇👇👇👇

As someone who lives in a Gulf state, what is this "humidity gets too high" you speak of?

Right? 😂

I don't know what parameters Ford set, but I'd guess it's in the 65-70% range when it goes into over-ride...
