I try to keep my freeway speed between 60-65 and average between 45-50 MPG. The hybrid gets it's economy by letting the battery do work, and at 80 it isn't working much.
Our state's freeway speed limit (except in the denser metro areas) is 80mph. If someone drives 60-65 here, they'll be run over.

No it doesn't. If I drop down to 65mph it may get 31mpg on the highway.

In the City I drive as conservative as possible and right to the speed limit and I have never averaged above 37mpg.

It's still great MPG, it just is not the stated MPG.
I average 50mpg in mixed driving, which exceeds the "expected" 37 mpg by 35% or so and that is
calculated not indicated mpg.

I do use eco mode and don't drive over 65 on the highway. In ICE mode on the highway I see mileage of around 37 when crusing on level highway, and can use the electric mode at 60-62 if I am careful.

I can't explain the significant difference between your hybrid and mine- with regard to actual miles per gallon.

We drive into the city from our home about 10 miles away, on mostly 45 mph roads. We are consistently in the upper 50s on gas mileage, sometimes 60 or more (and obviously very short drives inside the city are mostly if not all electric). Was true for the three years and 25K miles we drove our '22 Mav hybrid, and now on our '25.

It can, just not at speeds 15 to 20 percent above what the highway fuel efficiency figures are measured at.
Highway/High speed EPA fuel economy test involves reaching speeds of 80mph and over 70mph multiple times.

When I drive 65mph (5 mph under the posted speed limit) I cannot hit 33mpg on the highway.

For "mixed use" where I have driven probably 65% city / 35% highway over 2,909 miles my hand calculated MPG (Fuelly) is 31.6 MPG.

Reaching and averaging are going to provide two different results entirely. I could spike my speed to eighty but average sixty over an hour of driving and have much better fuel efficiency than averaging eighty over an hour of driving.

Drove my 2024 Hybrid maverick 200 miles today It has 950 miles on it now. Drove most of it at 80mph. I got a average of 34.8mpg.
Is this normal for a hybrid with under 1k miles?
Pretty much if you're driving 80 mph. Your engine is running just about constantly at that speed. Put it in ECO mode at 70, and you'll be in the 40's easily. I average 45 at that speed and setting.

Yep. Understood.

I don't pin the Maverick to 77mph and hold it there for 150 miles. My average speed was far less than 70 mph - actually in the upper 50s for the entire trip.

I've come to terms with the fact that the 2025 AWD hybrid doesn't meet the stated fuel economy.

As an FYI, here are the tests that the EPA uses. If you note the x-axis (and the table at the end), the duration of these tests aren't real long. As you can see, the highway tests (Highway & High Speed) are largely 60 mph and below .... and if you note from the table, the average speed for the highway test is only 48.3 mph and only 48.4 mph for the high speed test. Neither test really is a steady speed at typical highway speeds these days with 65+ mph speed limits ... speeds where the traditional truck shape of the Maverick will really hurt fuel economy.

Personally, now that the weather is more consistently 40F and above, I've been averaging around 39 mpg (mostly city speeds), with my lifetime average is about 35 mpg now.

Fact check True. My MPG is 47.6 and it’s been consistent for the last year. But in do between 60-65 miles on the highway.

You sir, are the poster child for EXACTLY what it's gonna get at 80mph on the highway. No more...No less. But hey, when you think about it, how many vehicles can you get 35 mpg at 80 in?? Not too many. Mavericks rock!

I’m getting 38-40 but never go 80.
