It sounds like you have not embraced today's technology. I am 66 years old and I love today's technology. Admittedly, I am a computer geek and have been building computers since the 90's.
The only new vehicle I ordered from the factory was a '97 S-10, extended cab, 2X4, 5 speed, ZQ8 lowered suspension package, and a step side bed. It was essentially the Extreme package a couple years before Chevy came out w/ the Extreme. Anyway, my point is that when I ordered the thing I convinced myself that I didn't need the power windows, power door locks, power mirrors package; probably only $250 or less back then, and seriously regretted the decision every one of the 147,000 miles I put on it.
thankfully my youngest son is a coder, otherwise I'd have no help with my compute machine issues. LOL. I do spend my entire days on a desktop compute machine. For driving I pride myself, as always on paying attention to the road. In high school I took driver's ed just because it was available. My teacher said only one thing to me ever....you are alert. I must try harder now at my age. Headlights on always and look three times both ways at stop signs.
LOL.. Yes, forgot to state that. Speeding keeps me awake, being in front keeps me awake, less likely to fade off. Now if the cops would just believe this. I have once driven that blue car top speed, goes 142 tops. Don't tell the cops though.
ive never had a speeding ticket, or violation, or anything other than I t boned and a chic and I got t boned, both not at fault.
Well said! I just retired and have been deliberating over and over on a 25 Maverick purchase. I agree with your philosophy of having a new outlook and also tired of skimping for so many years to get here. I think your post has helped me make up my decision.
im in same situation, I dont take money for granted, but my car is 13 years old, but its still kicking, but I feel like I deserve a new vehicle. but I dont want to go in debt over it either, like why replace if still works? I see a lot of perks, car to truck, trackbed,hauling,better mpg, 40more month insurance, recouped back in fuel savings.
yes insurance is currently outrageous. I had three vehicles and sold one due to high insurance and now a second one is 'off the road' but I currently keep it. If you can afford it, keep the old car and maybe remove it's collision insurance as that portion is the biggest expense...even raising liability costs little but collision is expensive. My Scion FRS I took off the road for one year while I kept two Mavericks. Finally sold one Maverick and put the FRS back on the road....so incredibly glad I kept the FRS as it was really fun to go back to it and yes it's a stick. I have owned about 65 cars in my lifetime, only the FRS has ever fit like a glove. So keep your old car if you have room for it. As for a Maverick, mine both 2022 models were cheap but they are no longer cheap. There are now tons of them used. I'd suggest finding a used one and also keeping the old car. Win, win.

I bought two mavericks being excited when they came out. Stupid move that was. One is a fwd hybrid and the other was a awd Ecoboost, both XLT models ( what most people purchase). I wanted to try both, each with totally different options. Since they were 2022 models, much cheaper new than now. hybrid XLT was 24,450 and EcoBoost awd XLT was 29,080...each with several a la carte options. Actually the fwd hybrid rides better at freeway speeds despite having a less sophisticated rear suspension, go figure. They each make a nice appliance.
this is completely true and is done on both of the bigger trucks by ordering XLT with technology + advanced towing package.
And on the MY25'S. I have a 25 Lariat and just drove an XL for close to 3 days. Noticeable difference in cabin noise.
