Yakima Roof Top & A.R.E. Topper Factory Installed Rails Installation

• BASE RACK TOWER: BaseLine Towers (Set of Four)
• FRONT CLIP: BaseClip 180 (B85-5)
• REAR CLIP: BaseClip 180 (B85-5)
• FAIRING: 40" WindShield
• MINIMUM BAR SIZE: Medium

• The plastic covers come off by squeezing both sides at the top and pulling towards you. The plastic cover rotates down before being able to pull it off.
• There is a small gray rectangular handle to pull out. Pulling out the handle exposes the Allen wrench adjustment screw for the RoundBar SL Adapters on the bottom of the tower.

• Installing the RoundBar SL Adapters requires snapping in the rectangular piece, set the round bar adapter on the adjustment screw, turn the tower over, and use the Allen wrench to begin threading the adjustment screw. You don’t need to go very far since you still need to install the round bar before tightening the adjustment screw.

• The fitlookup.yakima.com measurements don’t have measurements for the Maverick. The Maverick car dimensions are there instead. Use my measurements above.
• The rubber footing on the BaseLine Tower is designed to rest on the raised area next to the door. It should be snug. If it isn’t, the BaseLine Towers are too far apart on the RoundBar.

My goal with buying the ARE MX was to keep stuff off the roof, specifically the ski box. So far so good. I only have to use this rack occasionally for big trips. I'd be curious to know what you're carrying up there.

The BaseLine Towers are a little bit tricky to use the first time. Here are some hints and suggestions

A.R.E. MX-series Topper with rails
I ordered my A.R.E. shell with just the rails since I already had most of the Yakima rack items. I needed to add three components: 1) The TrackTowers, 2) The bar adapters, and 3) The Landing Pads.

In my case, I needed the round bar adapters:

• Adding the fairing to the front bars generated a small amount of noise.
• Adding the fairing to the shell bars had no noise impact.

Here is a picture measuring the span between the BaseLine Towers on the front bar.

As you can see, it is 46 inches, whereas the fitment lookup says 43 inches.

If you look at the original pictures closely and realize that I am using a 58 inches bar, you can see

• The towers are where they should be.
• Only 5 inches of the bar remains on either side of the BaseLine Tower.
• If the RoundBar adapter is 1 inch wide and there are two of them, the math becomes:
  58 inches - (2 * 1 inch RoundBar Adapter width) - (2 * 5 inches from the outside of the RoundBar Adapter to the end of the 58 inches RoundBar) = 46 inches, as reflected in the picture above.

The rear BaseLine Towers are 1/4-inch closer than the front BaseLine Towers, just as specified here.

FWIW, I tried using the 48-inch RoundBars first, and that is when I realized the measurements in the fitment guide were wrong. The BaseLine Towers had to be at the edge of the bar. Thus, the suggestion to go with the Medium - or 58 inches - RoundBar is correct. Unfortunately, the distance between the BaseLine Towers is incorrect in the fitment guide.

Note, however, that this measurement is harder to do when the BaseLine Towers are loose -- before they are tightened down. My way is based on where the RoundBar adapter touches the bar making it easier to get right when the adapters are loose.

In the end, the result is the same.

I plan on putting my SUP on the shell racks. The truck bed is full of soccer equipment since I coach AYSO EXTRA GU10 and BU10 teams this Fall.

I would love to hear what you think about the Jetstream bars. I have only owned the RoundBars. All of my accessories - SUP, kayak, snowboards/skiis, etc. - have mounts for the RoundBars.
