Roof Top Racks
Yakima offers a roof rack for the cab rooftop with integrated cross bars. Here is that information for your reference:
BaseLine FX System Integrated CrossBar System for Naked Roof Vehicles
SKU: #baseline-fx-system BaseLine FX System – Yakima
(You still need the BaseClip 180 specified below to use these)
(The SKU contains one bar. Thus, you need to order two of these if you want a pair of crossbars).

I will list that item below for people that like that approach. I, however, have round bars in various lengths and many attachments to go with them. Thus, I chose the BaseLine towers.
BaseLine Towers (Set of Four) Roof Rack Tower for Vehicles with Naked Roofs SKU: #8000162
BaseLine Towers (Set of Four) – Yakima
(Note that the JetStream Bars might not require adapters; I have no experience with these).

I used the RoundBar and needed SL Adapters for the Towers.
RoundBar SL Adapter - Yakima

If they use the HD Bars, then use these SL Adapters.
HD BAR SL Adapter (Attach Streamline Towers to HD CrossBars) SKU: #8003541
HD BAR SL Adapter - Yakima

The clips come in two packs. Thus, I needed two of the following clips:
BaseClip Clips for BaseLine Towers SKU: #8006180
BaseClip 180 (B85-5) – Yakima

Summary:
  • BASE RACK TOWER: BaseLine Towers (Set of Four)
  • FRONT CLIP: BaseClip 180 (B85-5)
  • REAR CLIP: BaseClip 180 (B85-5)
  • FAIRING: 40" WindShield
  • MINIMUM BAR SIZE: Medium

Here are the measurement details from fitlookup.yakima.com (in the installation manual which you can find here).

MEASUREMENTS
FRONT BAR PITCH (P1): B
FRONT BAR TOE (T1): 2
RECOMMENDED BAR LENGTH: 58 inches

M1: 46-3/4 inches; I prefer measuring from the end – 5 inches from each end on a 58 inches round bar

M2: 6 "

M3: 46-1/2 inches; I prefer measuring from the end – 5-1/8 inches from each end on a 58 inches round bar

M4: 32 "
REAR BAR PITCH (P2): B
REAR BAR TOE (T2): 2
WEIGHT LIMIT: 165 lbs

The BaseLine Towers are a little bit tricky to use the first time. Here are some hints and suggestions
  • The plastic covers come off by squeezing both sides at the top and pulling towards you. The plastic cover rotates down before being able to pull it off.
  • There is a small gray rectangular handle to pull out. Pulling out the handle exposes the Allen wrench adjustment screw for the RoundBar SL Adapters on the bottom of the tower.

  • Installing the RoundBar SL Adapters requires snapping in the rectangular piece, set the round bar adapter on the adjustment screw, turn the tower over, and use the Allen wrench to begin threading the adjustment screw. You don’t need to go very far since you still need to install the round bar before tightening the adjustment screw.

  • The fitlookup.yakima.com measurements don’t have measurements for the Maverick. The Maverick car dimensions are there instead. Use my measurements above.
  • The rubber footing on the BaseLine Tower is designed to rest on the raised area next to the door. It should be snug. If it isn’t, the BaseLine Towers are too far apart on the RoundBar.

Here are some pictures taken during various points in the installation.

A.R.E. MX-series Topper with rails
I ordered my A.R.E. shell with just the rails since I already had most of the Yakima rack items. I needed to add three components: 1) The TrackTowers, 2) The bar adapters, and 3) The Landing Pads.

TrackTowers (4-pack) For Vehicles with Tracks SKU: #8000199
TrackTower (4-pack) – Yakima

In my case, I needed the round bar adapters:
RoundBar SL Adapter (Attach Streamline Towers to RoundBar) SKU: #8003536
RoundBar SL Adapter – Yakima

Other adapters for your information:
HD BAR SL Adapter (Attach Streamline Towers to HD CrossBars) SKU: #8003541
HD BAR SL Adapter - Yakima

Note that these TrackTowers don’t seem to have Adapters for the JetStream or CoreBar – they might not require an adapter to work.

The Landing Pads can get tricky. I recommend contacting Yakima or a Yakima dealer to get the proper fit. In my case, I needed LandingPad 1 - Landing Pad SKU: #8000221
LandingPad - Yakima

Awesome write up! Looks like about $1500 worth of Yak racks, if I'm not mistaken. If I ever win the lotto, I'll consider it, haha. I'm currently making due with this setup. Between the el cheapo rack, stubby and track mount ties downs, I'm in for $225.

My goal with buying the ARE MX was to keep stuff off the roof, specifically the ski box. So far so good. I only have to use this rack occasionally for big trips. I'd be curious to know what you're carrying up there.

Most of the Yakima components I already owned.

The clips and towers for the roof were purchased when I bought the 2022 XL Hybrid Maverick. I have owned the bars for several years.

I picked up the towers for the shell a few months ago when I saw them advertised on Craigslist. All I had to do was buy the landing pads that worked with the tracks.

I plan on putting my SUP on the shell racks. The truck bed is full of soccer equipment since I coach AYSO EXTRA GU10 and BU10 teams this Fall.

The goal was to assemble the guide for Niles at Long McArthur Ford. I plan on pulling the roof racks back off again.

I would love to hear what you think about the JetStream bars. I have only owned the RoundBars. All of my accessories - SUP, kayak, snowboards/skiis, etc. - have mounts for the RoundBars.

Great question.
  • I had the bars without the fairings and didn't notice any noise.
  • Adding the fairing to the front bars generated a small amount of noise.
  • Adding the fairing to the shell bars had no noise impact.

Thanks. I have the square bars on my old 4runner and never noticed any added noise. I'll be copying your instal when I get my MY23 ordered Maverick. Perfact for surfboards and 10' kayak.

Your M1 and M3 don't agree with what I have found. I have my yakima round bar setup ready to install but don't get truck till next week. I found M1 to be 43 inches and M3 to be 42 3/4 inch. Are you sure on those numbers you posted? I screen grabbed what I am talking about

I should have mentioned that the information Yakima provides is incorrect.

Here is a picture measuring the span between the BaseLine Towers on the front bar.
Ford Maverick Yakima Roof Top & A.R.E. Topper Factory Installed Rails Installation M1-Span-46

As you can see, it is 46 inches, whereas the fitment lookup says 43 inches.

If you look at the original pictures closely and realize that I am using a 58 inches bar, you can see
  • The towers are where they should be.
  • Only 5 inches of the bar remains on either side of the BaseLine Tower.
  • If the RoundBar adapter is 1 inch wide and there are two of them, the math becomes:
58 inches - (2 * 1 inch RoundBar Adapter width) - (2 * 5 inches from the outside of the RoundBar Adapter to the end of the 58 inches RoundBar) = 46 inches, as reflected in the picture above.
The rear BaseLine Towers are 1/4-inch closer than the front BaseLine Towers, just as specified here.

FWIW, I tried using the 48-inch RoundBars first, and that is when I realized the measurements in the fitment guide were wrong. The BaseLine Towers had to be at the edge of the bar. Thus, the suggestion to go with the Medium - or 58 inches - RoundBar is correct. Unfortunately, the distance between the BaseLine Towers is incorrect in the fitment guide.

Great call out -- Thanks for double-checking my information!

Not trying to argue with you BUT you appear unless I misunderstand to measure not from where yakima says to. which is on inside I will show in picture below. As you can see I have mine all setup to install when I get my truck next week. It looks like you have 45 inches? Oh I had new 72 inch bars so used those will cut off excess with hacksaw.

It might be 43 inches based on where you are measuring since there might be a full inch from the RoundBar adapter to the edge of the BaseLine Tower. Good point.

Note, however, that this measurement is harder to do when the BaseLine Towers are loose -- before they are tightened down. My way is based on where the RoundBar adapter touches the bar making it easier to get right when the adapters are loose.

In the end, the result is the same.

Okay that is fine I just wanted to make sure I had mine setup right before the truck comes. that way I will have the bars up and ready asap.

I kayak all the time and need my transport vehicle ready to go. I sold my other car this past Monday and am in withdrawal from not kayaking since then.

Very good write up. Myself I am trying to get a level rack surface. I think I am going to put a single Yakima rack across the cab then make a platform that mounts directly to the topper rails out of that 2020 aluminum extrusion kit stuff.

If you get the chance do you think you could measure how far the tops of your cab Corebars are below the MX factory installed mounting tracks/rails.

I will also have the caps curve to contend with but I have a lot of scrap aluminum from a dock bridge to make spacers out of.

I won't be able to take the measurements tomorrow. I will, however, get them for you on Saturday. If you don't see a reply by 12 PM PST, ping me to remind me to post the measurements you asked for here.

Most of the Yakima components I already owned.

I plan on putting my SUP on the shell racks. The truck bed is full of soccer equipment since I coach AYSO EXTRA GU10 and BU10 teams this Fall.

I would love to hear what you think about the Jetstream bars. I have only owned the RoundBars. All of my accessories - SUP, kayak, snowboards/skiis, etc. - have mounts for the RoundBars.
I'm able to get my iSUP on the cab rack if it's faced backwards, with the fins in the front. The MX is slightly higher than my cab rack, but the board has quite a bit of rocker. The Cab rack is essential and the staggered shell rack is definitely a nice to have if you're carrying 2 solid SUPs. Mine are all inflatable boats though.

My bars are a lot like the Jetstreams. They make a humming sound like jet wings. At least they're aerodynamic? My huge Thule box hooks right up to it. I've had a few ski racks but mostly just cargo boxes and directly mounting things with NRS straps to flat bars.
