Mavericks getting in accidents is going to happen as more and more are on the roads, but specifically it seems there's been a trend of more read-ended accidents reported here. Some of those seemingly minor accidents resulted in the Maverick being totaled.

MotorTrend bought a Maverick months ago and it seems they've also been rear-ended. I'll leave the detailed analysis of MT's accident/repairs to those who want to read the linked article, but their Mav was fixed for just under $5K.

What is it that makes Mavs attract rear-enders? Is it something to do with the taillights, increased traffic with more impatient/distracted drivers, or the Mav's powerful brakes (just kidding;))?

I've only had my maverick for less than a week but I can see where people can misjudge the bumper. I came from driving a Subaru OBS for 12 years and I'm trying to adjust to the length of the Maverick. I'm thinking of getting a reflector to add to the bumper and hopefully that will keep other drivers from running me over.

I have read several articles about an overall trend for more rear end impacts across all vehicles. The theory is texting and otherwise distracted drivers. I won't vouch for that. Just what I've read several times over the last few years. Google "rear end collisions" and you get a zillion law sites. Apparently very common.

https://beckerlaw.com/blog/2-5-million-rear-end-collisions-every-year-make-common-type-crash/

Edit - there was a guy posting a thread here just this week about his Maverick getting rear ended while at a dealership, and the dealership started BS-ing him that they weren't responsible. I hope he finds one of these lawyers.

Distracted driving.
The more saftey/self driving stuff the cars have the safer people feel about doing other things while driving.
As an OTR driver I can tell you it has gotten stupid out there. 9 out of 10 people have their phones in their hands or laps using them. It is a huge jump in the last 5 years. If you ever get a chamce to ride in a semi for a day, do it. You will be shocked at the stuff you will see.

My hypothesis is that many drivers are seeing Mavericks for the first time and are wondering, "what the heck kinda truck is that" and run up too close behind one to get a better look at it and BAM!

I think getting those after market tailgate MAVERICK letters might be a good idea!

Sampling bias. We are focused on Mavericks so we see those. Rear enders are up across the board. 100% phone usage.

As someone just coming out of a small car I believe that a lot of it is because people are too aggressive and impatient.
I can't count the number of times that some jerk in a lifted full-size truck rode my bumper in heavy traffic as if driving that close and aggressively would make the cars in front of me speed up.

Add to that all the distractions of modern vehicles like those huge monitors, the ubiquitous cellphone and even the various beeps and bings from all the safety gear.
Last week I nearly pooped myself when my RAM loaner screamed loudly enough that the guy in the next car over heard it.
It kept doing it at various intersections till I pulled off the road to google... it's all because there are speed cameras at those intersections so of course we need a 3 chime alert at full volume.

Absolutely correct. Sampling bias. You won’t read many posts about Santa Cruz or Ridgeline rear ends on this forum.

Probably has a lot of different variables. I think the distracted drivers has definitely added it's fair share. I also think many are getting to close for a better look. Lastly I believe from reviews that the Maverick's braking works great. All of these probably contributed in one form or another.

I will say that I have in the past got close to look at them while driving but still stayed a safe distance. Just for reference I think they look awesome 👍

Hopefully as more Maverick's become more common, law enforcement enforcing laws of using a phone, that these or all accidents are reduced. I am more concerned of someone getting hurt or killed, rather than a repair or replacing a vehicle.

That is why I bought nice chrome ones and put them on the first day I had it in the driveway. That stamped name like others is just hard to read. I can see people questioning, does that say Ranger? Not FORD so what is it? Bam, OH Crap.

I also like the bling factor on the lettering we all do. Nice of Ford to make us a place on the truck that we can personalize for a few bucks.

Got rear ended yesterday! My Maverick is 2 months old, I was a little freaked out and pissed off, but I THINK my plastic bumper cover bent a little and that might be all. Bringing it to Ford tomorrow to get it on the lift and make sure I have no other damage. This lady put a nice hole in her Subaru with the trailer hitch square.
I read the posts here…super interesting that perhaps the lack of accent trim might make the depth perception worse from who is behind me. Mines all black. Considering a beefy trailer hitch plug…

Funny you guys say distracted drivers.
I finally had a long freeway trip today, and noticed so many people looking at their phones, or looking down (probably at phones.) It was actually insane and surprised me.

It almost seems disproportionate, everyday a new “I got rear ended”. This is why I put on a tailgate light bar and hitch mount stop light. 3rd brake light and hitch lights also strobe with all other bulbs upgraded to lasfits. If I get rear ended it better be because you’re having a medical emergency 🤦🏻‍♂️
