I know I would, probably to go alongside our hybrid. This is Ford's affordable electric vehicle platform, internally called CE1, created by a very talented team of ex apple and Tesla engineers. It's apparently going to be used for an electric maverick and bronco sport, likely other vehicles as well.

I know 25-30k seems too good to be true, but Ford seems very committed to delivering at this price point.
No. I would for a plug in hybrid.

No. I like to keep the depreciation of my vehicles at a limit of $2,000 per year, which is impossible with an EV. I have a friend with a dealer's license who is seeing nice EVS at the auctions get no bids. Even a $25,000, if they're worth nothing in five years it's a poor financial decision.

Very relevant to this thread. Jim Farley quoted this morning.

"What the customer has now said to us, if you have anything larger than (the) Escape, it better be really functional or a work vehicle, as an EV," Farley said. "If you do the economics and all that battery for a vehicle that's, let's say, the Escape or smaller, it's totally different. It completely works. In fact, it's dramatically better operating cost than a (Toyota) Corolla or a (Honda) Civic or even a (Ford) Maverick. That is what's really exciting for us. That's a pivot that isn't entirely obvious that Ford has made but we have made it."

So you think if United States switches to electric it will solve the so called global warming? Meanwhile other countries continue to pollute the world. Other countries have less stringent laws on pollution. That pollution still effects entire world not just over their country. Plus why don't we start with all the unneeded jets flying all over the place. That contributes a major portion to the problem. The people who push these regulations are the biggest offenders.
[/QUOTE
Your thinking in a nutshell:
There’s a problem consisting of parts A, B, C, D, etc. Since addressing A will not solve the total problem, let’s do nothing and instead spread around the blame to all the other parts.

The climate is warming. Polar ice is melting, glaciers are receding, the chemistry of the ocean is becoming dangerously acidic, sea levels are rising. All of this and more are consequences of the greenhouse gases we continue to emit into the atmosphere, where they trap and radiate heat that would otherwise escape into space. Those are facts, not conjectures. Why is it that any attempt to solve this looming catastrophe has to devolve into misinformation and conspiracy theories? EVs are NOT shit cars and the government is NOT offering fake incentives to manipulate anything. (And please spare us the global warming hoax b.s.)
Better find another sales pitch. If I ever buy an EV, and I just might, It will have nothing to do with anything in your post. I don’t make major purchases on emotion.

Hmmm. So he's saying small cars are more fuel efficient, no matter the fuel type or powertrain. Who knew?

Something that I don't hear discussed very often is car size. A lot of people drive cars that are larger than they need. My opinion is that a big part of that decision is the perception of greater safety. With half the population in my area driving massive pickups or SUVs (badly ;)), people don't want to drive vehicles that they believe can be crushed easily. Having driven cars like the Triumph TR4A around here, I can understand the concern. I think small EV sales, and sales of small cars in general, suffer because of this perception.

tl;dr - yes, in theory

I live in a large-ish city. I'm a field engineer for an IT Managed Service Provider. Most of my driving use-case in my truck is daily driving around town for on-site visits/installs to clients and errands. Trickle charge overnight would be more than enough for me usual needs. I own a house. I am pretty much the ideal scenario for a small BEV truck. I would expect a BEV Mav to come in around 35-40K, but that might be worth the cost anyway. I fully plan to drive the Maverick into the ground and the mileage increase has been amazing already.

As for "If so many EVs, electricity prices will skyrocket" consider, many homes can get solar panels (my house has a LOT of sun on the south side of the house). Texas rates were obscene during their ice storms and they aren't dealing with 100% or 50% or 25% (or maybe even 10%) BEV use. That's just the power companies wanting to gouge the customers, in the end. But also, some buy-in from municipalities, states, and the federal government would help. And infrastructure for EVs in urban/apartment settings is kind of appalling still. But all energy costs. ICE has costs, gas fluctuates if Russia or Saudi Arabia sneezes. Or if another climate-modified hurricane slams into the gulf coast stopping refining. Fossil fuels aren't infinite. And there's no silver bullet to adjust away from the use of older energy tech. But, again, my current living situation is pretty ideal for adjusting to a BEV vehicle.

Yep, most definitely. My commute is 88 miles M-F and I can charge in my garage. If I need to go further than a few hundred miles away I'll take my wife's ICE car.

You are right and the fact is people with the means will always be driving bigger vehicles regardless. For the most part people are in smaller vehicles for economic reasons.

I don’t see any sales pitch here and I couldn’t care less what kind of a car you buy.

And here is the CFO this morning. Ford seems to be on a big PR push around the cheap EV. Oh, and he hints "a few years".

It's very unlikely that any of the big 3 will be able to produce an EV small truck or small car for under $30k due to material and labor costs. Chinese manufacturers like BYD can, but the US will do everything it can to block them from entering the market. So for the time being, enjoy your hybrid and wish for a plug-in hybrid if possible.
