I do not live by my phone, but can understand those who do not wanting to plug in.
Not sure what that means. To use Android Auto in the truck you either plug it in or use one of these adapters.

Call me stupid, or a moron, but why not use the Andriod Auto by plugging your phone into the port of the truck?

I can do everything on mine that the dongles provide, so why spend the money on a dongle?

All one has to do is download apps to their phone to allow things the factory doesn't allow.
I won't call you a name but the idea is the convenience. Not having to plug in and out also reduces the wear and tear on the socket in the phone. I also will often forget my phone in the truck when it is plugged in and jump out without having it in my pocket. No, it doesn't work any better or offer app improvements. It's just more convenient. Guess I will have to wait until I upgrade my phone though. Android v9 is not gonna work it seems.

Means I do not carry it on me all the time. I leave it plugged in often if I sm out and about.

Has anyone got the MA1 or similar Android Wireless device to work with Android Auto with a phone running Android v9 (Pie). Everything works great if I'm wired with my LG v30 phone, but trying the Motorola MA-1, I couldn't get anything to work. I returned the device. Am I out of luck until I get a new phone? Might an alternative brand work?

According to Google, for Wireless Android Auto you need:
Any phone with Android 11.0
A Google or Samsung phone with Android 10.0
A Samsung Galaxy S8, Galaxy S8+, or Note 8, with Android 9.0

I would not recommend the MA1 if you use a Samsung phone. I have an S21 and the MA1 is absolute hot garbage. In 11 minute drive, it fully disconnected twice and couldn't play a spotify song start to finish without skipping. Half way home from my 11 minute drive, I could have thrown the POS out the window. I plugged in the phone direct and had AA working flawlessly. I got it on Saturday and will be returning it today.

I know this isn't what many others experience, but it's turned me off wireless dongles all together.

I am using a Samsung Galaxy S8 Active with Android v9 / One UI 1.1 "Pie" and I am using the MA1.

I did have to put the phone into Android auto's developer mode.
Description how here (note this is with a different adapter but it worked for me)

I also use this method to charge my S8 while I'm driving:

Is Android v9 upgrade available for your phone? I have two different phones on TMobile network. When at home I have phones connected to unlimited data TMobile wireless TV along with computer, three TV's ($50/mo). Periodically my phone's automatically update OS + some of apps and restart!

I have a Note 20 Ultra so I guess I will see what happens. I bought mine on Black Friday so too late to return it at this point. Hopefully I don't have the same issues.

There Are no further Android upgrades available for my LG V30 ThinQ phone. I'm guessing I will have to wait until I'm ready to get a new phone before I will be able to move on with wireless Android auto. ☹

My wife has an LG stylo 6, I think it recently updated. I need to check and if updates have expired then I will get her a new phone. I have a revvl 5g. I think both ours are phones that use most of T-Mobile bandwidths but possibly not some that T-Mobile purchased in recent years.

The only issue I have with the MA1 (in both the Mav and my 2021 Toyota Sienna) is that it requires the phone be connected to it's internal wifi connection. My phone plan has very limited data, but the van has an unlimited data plan. I can only connect to one or the other. If I connect to the van's wifi hotspot, AA shuts down. If I connect to the MA1 hotspot, I use my very limited phone data.

Use the USBC port right above the USB-A port.

You still have the 12V adapter available to plug in. Also, since you have a Lariat Lux like me, just use the Wireless Charger it comes with.
