Please let us know how your discussion with Krown corporate goes.
Finally heard back from Krown Corporate regarding my engine light and Ford's diagnosis.

Krown has informed me that they are "sorry to hear about my experience with my local Ford dealerships". They claim that my dealer cut corners when diagnosing the cause of my engine light coming on, and that Krown underspray can not, and will not, affect Ford's fuel tank pressure sensors.

Krown claims to have had an unbiased 3rd party perform tests on the Ford Fuel tank sensors, and that those results prove that my fuel tank sensor was not damaged by Krown. That being said, the "proof" of these results is a copied/pasted blurb of text, with zero signatures or proof of authenticity.... Krown tells me this is a constant issue they see with Ford. My question regarding this being an issue Krown knows about with Ford is, why would they not tape off and/or avoid spraying these sensors if it's such a "known issue" for them? Surely taping off or avoiding this sensor is less work than regularly dealing with complaints (again, assuming you take Krown's word that this is a regular and known issue, specific to Ford vehicles).

I'm essentially back to square 1 with both Ford and Krown pointing fingers at each other, and both parties essentially telling me I need to just trust them as the other is trying to pull a fast one on me...

Very disappointing as I likely won't be returning to Krown after this experience. Even if this 100% isn't Krown's fault (something I'm doubtful of), clearly their product has made getting my vehicle serviced/repaired under warranty an absolute nightmare. Not something I wish to deal with again.

I call BS on Krown and their feeble attempt to reassign blame... Their 'cut and paste' response suggests they have caused this issue before and hope you will not push harder and will just go away. I'm not a court guy, but in this case I would investigate moving forward in Small Claims Court, your cost is minimal. I would believe that a court would be more prone to believe the findings from the OEM Ford than some aftermarket entity that sprayed a lot of crap over the factory sensors...

good luck

.

Sounds like you are getting a complete runaround from Krown which makes me want to boycott their company, however, their product does seem to work well. I doubt Ford is mistaken in their diagnosis of your failed sensor likely caused by Krown overspray.

I realize this is a frustrating situation but I would ask for a copy of their " independent 3rd party" analysis claiming that Krown does not impact Ford sensors in the event that you pursue a case in small claims court. But then again, most people don't have the time to deal with BS situations like this.

It would appear that Krown's manufacturer approved guarantee is worthless and like another poster said, the best solution would be to have the Krown apply tape to the sensors before spraying. Perhaps they should better train and educate their franchises.

I expected more from a large company like Krown, along with your local Krown dealership.

Best of luck if you continue to pursue this issue.

Most pressure sensor relies on detecting pressure difference between whatever inside the tank and the atmosphere. It's entirely possible that the Krown coating plugged the orifice that let atmosphere pressure going to the sensor. Any kind of coating / paint could damage pressure sensors. The "proof" that they provided to you showing that the coating will not damage pressure sensor is 100% BS.

If you DIY and sprayed on the pressure sensor then 100% it will not be covered by Ford. I don't think Ford is at fault here.

If you have access to the sensor I would try to use some kind of electronic safe solvent (99% alchool?) to flush out the coating. I'm almost certain that the sensor will work afterward.

BTW any company that requires "yearly application" to keep their "warranty" is borderline scam. Hard pass for me whenever I hear such sales tactics being used.

Wondering if anyone can diagrammatically indicate where the fuel pressure sensor is located exactly?

I did Krown last year and thankfully have had no issues but I plan on going again this year but am now hesitant with this known issue

Also fyi, my local Krown response to the fuel sensor:

Ford has had issues for more than a decade with their fuel sensors on many vehicles and would blame any style of oil rustproofing for the fault codes. Krown corporate hired a private firm to test them and the results indicated that Krown would not be a direct cause of this fault code, that having been said we have made it a point to avoid the top of Ford gas tanks for years,(likely why you had no issues) and we will continue to do so to avoid this issue for our customers, unsure if other oil based companies are doing the same.

Yeah, I'd love to know where the sensor physically is located before going on company witch hunts and shaming

The pressure sensor is open to the air, to detect pressure relative to ambient pressure. If the guy spraying the film is not careful, it can easily get plugged, no matter with product you use. In this case I'd bet that the trainee undercoating guy just sprayed everything and that Krown dealer has caused the issue. I don't know if you can transfer your undercoating warranty to a better dealer who hires more qualified employees. If not, make sure that you get the yearly respray done by the boss instead of the student.

Someone I know had their Maverick "rust treated" (not sure which company / product, I didn't ask) and also had a sensor go bad, which they had to pay out of pocket to replace because Ford said it was damaged by the treatment. So it seems to be a widely known problem

I'll still get the treatment done (or I'll DIY if I have time), but I intend to find out where the troublesome sensor is and make sure it doesn't get sprayed
