Why the ecoboost?

I chose to try my luck getting the Ecoboost and even more to the opposite end of the spectrum with a Tremor. So if I get my truck it seems I'm in an even smaller camp. The hybrid does interest me because of the obvious gas milage increase. However I do lose some of the stuff I want from this little truck. Advanced 4WD was my biggest draw to the Tremor because of some deep snow we tend to get here.

Newer vehicles have/are getting more complicated with computers/electronics as the years go on. I didn't want to have a hybrid that leans even more into that territory. On top of that seeing a lot of the issues hybrids seem to have had pop up made me want to shy away. Just think I have a better chance of taking my vehicle to a trusted local mechanic if there's issues when I'm out of warranty years down the road when it comes to the Ecoboost.

I'm just glad we have choices. You made yours and I made mine. We're all still Maverick enthusiasts here on this forum. Just glad another one of these great little trucks are on the road. Ecoboost or Hybrid enjoy your Maverick folks!

My original reasoning for selecting the hybrid was the two-decade history Ford had with the Escape/Fusion hybrids and the normally-aspirated Atkinson-cycle engine being super reliable.

Looking back, I would no doubt still be driving the Maverick had I chose Ecoboost. I would love the power and towing capability and still get good economy for a truck, with greater capability and I feel, greater reliability. At least I wouldn't wonder whether it would start each trip and the dealerships understood how to repair it.

My opinion, based on 27,200 miles of Maverick ownership experience.

I first purchased the ‘22 hybrid but it was at the dealership so often that I got rid of it and I now have a ‘24 EB scheduled to be built this year. I had so many recalls and other issues with the hybrid that 1) it wasn’t available for me to drive and 2) I didn’t trust it when it was.

In hindsight the EB should have been my first choice. I don’t drive that much anymore so gas savings was not a big priority but the thought of a hybrid was very intriguing. I also like to do basic maintenance on my vehicles but I didn’t trust myself around all the high voltage wires under the hood. And my mechanic doesn’t like working on them either. Last, I don’t think the ‘22 hybrid is going to age well. In about 5-6 years it will be in those Consumer Reports lists of used vehicles to avoid as a result of all those recalls. So for me, the EB is more basic, simple and reliable as well as more fun to drive.

The dealers around Milwaukee seem to have lots of hybrids, but I have a trailer with a Model T on it that I have to tow around. That meant I needed the 4K towing package and that does not come in a hybrid.
I called a dealer that got what I needed that day. It wasn't promised to anyone, so I went up to see it and said yes. I got lucky and got the FX4 with it for free.
It really pays to look at www.ford.com and search for cars within your state. Do not just use your zip code. Try zip codes in 4 areas of your state and you will probably find what you are looking for. Ford seems to run a batch of hybrids one week and a batch of EB's the next.

My dealer had one on the lot (a preorder that the buyer backed out on). I was coming to order a hybrid, but this one was EB with AWD and 4K towing. I get around 26 MPG mixed use and I'm pleased with everything. I've never driven the hybrid so I can't say but I am very pleased with the EB. 5500 miles later I'm glad I got it.

I’m not a fan of hybrids. I want gas or electric.

For me it was AWD, Towing, FX4 package, and the fact that I do very little in town driving and a lot of highway travel in all seasons.

• Reported hybrid issues were a deterrent
• Added cost on MY24
• Wait time: Need a car this year, as it is inspection was sketchy this past Oct.
• My particular use cases: <8k a year, mostly highway, lessen the gas savings
• Reviews of less passing power at highway speeds.
• Currently drive a 250HP vehicle and value acceleration at times like merging etc.
• No hybrids available to test drive. Never owned a hybrid and it is a large expense to go into blind

Hybrid is the best of both. There's a reason the Prius has been crazy popular. If Ford cared to make less money per vehicle but sell way more vehicles, they'd boost Maverick production and totally take all the Civic/ Prius sales....

You're a glass is half full kind of guy! Thanks for bringing some positivity!! I'm quite excited as well... mine is built week of 12/18... I live just 4 hours from the Hermosillo plant, so hopefully I'll see mine before end of year. Have a funeral to attend on Jan 7 in Georgia, so it might even be a road trip right away....

Same (build week 12/18) I live in Arizona so maybe we will both get them shipped quick.

Availability. I originally ordered 2 Mavericks one XLT hybrid and one XLT Eco back in September 2022. I was in no hurray, but as the tea leaves began to show getting the hybrid would be tough changed both to Eco. I now have a XLT Eco FWD and an XLT FX4 4K. I don't need 4K or AWD as I live in Florida and also own a RAM 1500, but I figured it would be more versatile and adding options would increase the chance of getting it. Son has the FWD and wife has the FX4.

At my work we have XL hybrids and I drive them at least once a week. I think they are a really good as an option, but after driving my Eco I find it an underwhelming experience. The Eco is much more enjoyable to drive.

You're an enthusiastic truck person but not enough drivers are. In all of the US only 15-20% of total drivers are driving trucks.

So, with those numbers in mind if the Mav hybrid could compete with the Prius on mileage etc (which it doesn't 100%) you'd only get 20% of Prius drivers to convert max. Statistically the rest of them choose Prius for another reason.

Hybrids are so much better than an EV for do-anything average daily life. A lot of EV owners drive atypically low mileage, can charge at free while parked at work, have another vehicle they can drive on vacations and long trips, etc. They often have some extenuating circumstance that makes it feasible for them to live with the huge drawbacks of charging time and range.

BEV is going nowhere long-term. The onboard charging from a hybrid is vastly superior.

In the next 20-50+ years if it's not a gas engine, something is going to charge the battery while the vehicle is in operation, like a hydrogen generator. All we need to do is to be able to store it safely, and extract it inexpensively from water.

That was my main reason originally but decided two thousand towing in exchange for great MPG was better for me.
