Why the 2025 is less safe than the earlier years

I owned a 22 Ford Maverick Lariat and currently drive a 25 Ford Maverick Lariat. The 25 Maverick is safer than the 22 Maverick! More voice control with the 25. Also the 25 Mav has 360 camera with more sensors. For climate control, just use Auto Climate. If you do change the HVAC settings, the touch control is safer than the physical controls...the touch controls location is higher, closer to the line of eyesight, than the physical controls. IMHO, the 25 Ford Maverick is a safer than the 22 Ford Maverick.

I have a Tesla and a 2024 Maverick. I also would not buy a 2025 due to the change, even though the Tesla does not bother me. Unless they can make it work as well as Tesla (and it absolutely does not), they - and anyone else - need to stick with physical buttons. This is 100% cost cutting, and that's true for Tesla as well but at least their screen is as responsive as my iPad. All they needed to do was add the bigger screen but leave the climate panel and I'd have bought a 2025.

To say that the 2025 is somehow "less safe" than a 2024 is really hyperbolic, though. If you're really concerned with safety, you should probably consider a vehicle that scores better in safety testing - the test results are the same for all models 2022-2025 and there are some fairly disappointing data points in the numbers.

Maybe not necessarily "safer", but for me a LOT easier and faster to reach down and turn a dial without taking my eyes off the road.

It's not what people think; it's what studies have shown. Touchscreens are less safe. And yes, holding the steering wheel with one hand while adjusting a control is safer than looking at a touchscreen while holding the steering wheel with one hand while adjusting a control.

Bullshit. 22-24 owners have to take their hand off the wheel (or reach) to adjust the temperature. 2025 owners don't have to.

Umm, no. The odds of getting into the crash or running over a kid are a lot higher when your eyes are not on the road. Assuming that you're in a crash, the Mav is pretty safe for the driver, a bit less so for the passengers, and a lot less safe for the kid you just ran over while you were screwing with the temperature control.

You folks with 22-24 Mavericks that adjust HVAC without looking must have better muscle memory than I. I can reach down and adjust the fan or temperature without looking, but that's about it and I usually set it on auto and rarely touch the knobs anyway. For the rest, there are too many buttons that feel the same for me to know what they are just by touch, and I have to look down away from the road farther for those buttons than I would if they were on the screen.

Nope. We have voice control on the 25's. No need to touch a button or screen. And 25's still have a volume knob, and manual steering wheel buttons still for volume/skipping songs etc.

I think this does not take into account the better design of Ford's interface than 90% of other touchscreen cars I have seen. The row of easy access buttons along the bottom eliminates a lot of hunt and peck. It is also mounted high enough in Maverick and my Escape that you can still catch movement and brake-lights ahead while looking at it.

IMO this is one of the safest screens there is, and due to interface improvement and better responsiveness, it may be safer than the 2022-24 models. Though coming from one of those there would be an acclimatisation delay.

I was however fortunate to learn to drive, and gain experience driving before phones. Thus really learned the "road first" thing. When younger gens have been accustomed to instantly respond to their phone/screen, they probably find it super hard to break that habit, and thus the driving isn't first. Before it was actually illegal to phone and drive, I have cut off calls, tossed the phone on the seat, dumped a coffee in the pass footwell etc because sudden situations developed. If you'd rather die than let go of your phone, you will die.

That's what I try to tell people who assume that this touch screen is like other touch screens and have not tried it. I generally don't like touch screen controls for climate. But to be honest, the first day I got this vehicle everything just naturally fell into place. The controls are always visible at the bottom of the screen and easily reachable . You don't have to navigate through a menu. And the controls are at the same level as the speedometer but a bit to the right So it is no more distracting than glancing at your speedometer. In all honesty, I find these controls to be a bit easier than some vehicles physical controls. Again, on my first drive I almost forgot that they were touch screen controls. The defrost has a physical control along with the touch screen control. And the touch screen control is actually easier to access and less distracting. I truly recommend anyone to actually use THIS PARTICULAR touch screen before condemning it in the pile with all other touch screens

My prediction on this thread is EVERY 2025 owner will say the loss of knobs is safer and every pre-2025 will say it isn't. I drove both before buying and HATED the 2025 screen and dash. But once the 2024s are gone it is a moot point for everyone.

Nah, this 2025 owner already knows coming from a Tesla that it is not safer. Adding the voice command option does help, but it can be just as annoying as it is helpful. A well laid out dash where the common control are right there really is the mega cheat code, shortcut.

What is it with this forum and the constant nag for buttons? How much time do you boomers spend fiddling with your climate controls? Set it to auto three and just tap up or down on the - symbol if you want it cooler or tap on the +symbol if you want it warmer. It ain't that complicated.

As a Mach-E owner I could not imagine if everything needed a physical control. The front dash would look like a goddamn airplane cockpit.

Yeah lets make it look the recent 2024 INEOS Grenadier! Give me more physical controls damnit!!

I liked the Manual controls on the BS BB more than the controls on My 2025 Maverick

Money is the ONLY thing that will stop all controls from going to a screen It cheaper, Maybe insurance companies can have a hand at bringing back knobs. . I would hate the 2025 hvac controls on 2025 Mav. .I would consider another vehicle because of it. Granted there isn't one yet . 2025 Ranger has knobs might go that way.

I don't like talking to My cars but I'll have to try the Voice Control because i don't care for the controls on the Screen.

Voice controls are OK for basic things if I am in the vehicle alone. Still just not as convenient as the simple knobs, but with the touch screen controls I find I use the voice controls more over time because it is the path of least resistance.
