I love the keypad on my '23 XLT. The truck would be a totally different vehicle without the keypad and without the rear window.
Ford sucks for taking away this feature.

I've had the add-on keypads. Two of the three died and had to be replaced after three years. You use to be able to program the add-on keypads yourself. Now it costs $$$ at the dealers. My last three Fords have the wired in. No problems. The one on my Bronco Sport was the best. Couldn't see it on the column until you touched it.I am member of a small group that believes that dropping the keypad was an availability issue. Limited supply for an item that most likely 60+% don't care about. This allows trucks to be built and delivered and ordered or added at a later time when available!
You should be able to self program the key pad just like it was an additional key fob. I have not seen anything saying this could be done but it operates just like a fob without an emergency physical key so why not. As far as non replaceable battery that should be hackable. Probably be figured out if the right guy gets a "Deep sleeping keypad"!I've had the add-on keypads. Two of the three died and had to be replaced after three years. This has been discussed ad-nauseam, unless you have the dealer-level software, you can't do it like a keyfob. You should be able to self program the key pad just like it was an additional key fob. The problem is the Maverick didn't get more affordable even with the removal of the keypad. Just like everything else, the price went up. So you're paying more and receiving less. I will say that at least they offered a new feature in exchange that I can see being more useful that 22's didn't have: voice-activated navigation with pinch to zoom capability. Some will give me crap and say that it's useless and you're better off using your phone's navigation but in my mind, it's nice to not have to plug in my phone just to use navigation. And when the phone's connected, I can't access the truck's infotainment settings since it automatically uploads the maps and the phone's apps in the background. I would have to dig through menus to get back to the truck's infotainment such as to change the radio station. But with built-in nav, I can still access the infotainment if need be without having to plug in anything.I had keypad on my 2013 ford edge.
Most useless thing ever. Especially if you live in the city and cant leave keys in car, unless you want to donate it to impoverished teenagers.
I used it once or twice the day i bought vegicle and it never crossed my mind to use it again. Dropping the keyless entry to make truck more affordable is a no-brainer if you ask me.
You must work for Ford... that's a pretty impassioned defense!
Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is holding a gun to anybodies head and forcing them to buy a Maverick. If you have a better value vehicle in mind, buy it. The Maverick serves the purposes I need at a price point I am comfortable with. The "shortages" are making them money. Nothing - I repeat - NOTHING, has made the Maverick more affordable. In fact the opposite. Items were cut and prices went up.
This point is so ridiculous and not even relevant to the discussion of WHY these things happen. At what point does "value" exit the discussion and is it only relevant to your income, what you want out of a product, or the quality of the product and the cost of it? Again, features were removed, prices went up. Stop normalizing this "inflation" because it's not what you think it is - it's money in THEIR pockets, not a better quality product, and obviously not a cheaper product, and obviously according to the white collars at FORD - not more money in their workforces pockets either. The end. I'm glad you are happy with your trim level, I am too overall - it doesn't change the facts.Nobody, and I mean NOBODY, is holding a gun o anybodies head and forcing them to buy a Maverick. I'm Generation Z but I'm still old fashioned. I'm not tech savvy and behind the times when it comes to phones, but I do love and am familiar with car tech. The keypad is wonderful, especially if I need to go get something out of the car and don't need to bring my key fob. Just type in the code, boom, good to go. And to lock it, just hold the bottom two buttons and that's it. It's a great, convenient feature. I will miss that on my future '24 Maverick. But it's not a deal breaker. I can live without it. I'm not gonna go to the expense of adding the $200 dealer-installed version that mounts to the door looking tacky as can be and the worry of programming it. It's not worth the trouble in my eyes when that can go towards something else or simply in my pocket.Millenials do not use keypads. They do everything on their phones. I prefer both methods. When I had a keypad fail, I had to call a locksmith to get in my car. I was 200 miles away from home and the key was inside the car. I learned that lesson.
Hey now... I'm a millennial. I love having my keypad. Outside working (during summer... not winter... I'm not crazy - did I mention I'm a millennial?) and I can open without the key to grab my tools from the truck.Millenials do not use keypads. They do everything on their phones. No, you cannot, the Bronco uses a different system, you cannot program the keypad on the Maverick. You can program your own:

And now I’m on the hunt to see who in Florida has the equipment so I can pay them.
It’s totally asinine that the keypads are available everywhere by the thousands on eBay and ford dealerships, but not the official ford site with the $24 installation fee.
