FYI, Android auto and carplay still use Bluetooth even when plugged in with a cable.

My solution to this is rather simple, I turn Bluetooth off in my phones settings.

As in your battery was dead the Intelligent Access, keypad, key fob, and Fordpass app all wouldn't be able to unlock the vehicle so you could jumpstart it. Thus the mechanical backup. For why the alarm goes off when you unlock with the key that's because you're expected to use an electronic method to unlock and there's no secondary authentication for the key. So it assumes someone unlocking it mechanically with battery power might be a break-in and sets off the alarm.

22,000 miles on my XLT and I use the keypad every single day and knock on wood I haven't had an issue.

So I rarely do this, just occasionally when duck hunting and it's best not to have a fob in my pocket. Have never had a problem on my f150 but I did this on the Mav Lariat and the factory Keypad would simply not work at all. Finally had to call my son to Uber a key up. After getting in, I randomly tried the steps to fix the intelligent access entry lock and unlock feature and voila the keypad worked again. No idea why intelligent access would fix the keypad but it did. Isn't intelligent access the handle sensor? So thinking as I post, duh, the handle sensor needs to work in conjunction with the keypad.

Regardless, expensive lesson. Will never lock key in the truck and rely on Keypad.

My F150 don't have Intelligent Access so I'll still do it on that truck

Why not use roadside assistance? Do they not have that in Canada?

To get roadside assistance to my location would have cost about same as Ubering the key. Then RA would still need to get in. How hard is that on Mav? My old 150 it’s can of corn.

Never needed to do this but if I ever... and with your tale, I think I will put the key fob into the bed cubby, lock my tri-fold cover but only after I try the button door lock combination once or twice. Then if all else fails upon your return pop open the cover (carefully, it will break the plastic latch) and retrieve the key. sounds cheaper.

Another thing to consider, is if you install a keypad after purchase, it runs on an internal battery while the factory keypad uses the truck battery (correct me if I'm wrong on this)

So with the keypad installed after purchase, you run a higher risk of the battery dying.
