Was it a Hybrid? I'm wondering if it had been running in electric mode a lot or if someone had stolen siphoned off some gas and the sensor just isn't low enough in the tank to recognize something changed.
It was not a Hybrid.

I don't even know what the gas light looks like on the Mav. I'll generally fill if I'm at 1/4 tank

In my 22 years of driving I’ve noticed there are 4 kind of people in the world of how they fill or don’t fill their vehicles… are you….

A) Wait till the gas light comes on and top off?
B) Top off after 3/4 tank?
C) The one that never puts more than 10 bucks worth?
D) Rides around on E most of the time putting 5 bucks in randomly

I personally lean towards being A.

Sadly I know a lot of people that ride around on E and never bat an eye lol
No category for me. When I get to about a quarter tank, I fill up.

How about “None of the above”? There are lots of other possibilities.

When you live near a nuclear power plant or in a rural high fire area it’s best to have a full tank.

Wait until the car starts to sputter and troll a nearby parking lot looking for an older model vehicle to syphon gas from, as the capless newer models can be a pain. I really need to invest in a pump, the stuff they use these days has a horrible aftertaste!

If fuel prices are going up, I tend to fill up earlier than usual, before they go up even more. If they're going down, I wait and see if they go any lower. Easy to do, with the Hybrid's "no-range-anxiety" 550 - 600 miles per tank.

I usually fill up when I get around 1/4 tank. Sometimes, I go a little lower on trips, and sometimes, I fill up earlier for convenience or in preparation for a long drive the next morning.

Most cars/trucks have fuel pump in gas tank . Uses fuel as a coolant for fuel pump . overheating and need for repair may happen prematurely with constant low fuel levels imo . I keep gas tank at least half full . top off if hurricanes coming to Florida . Also top off liquid spirits  .

I agree fuel is a coolant and lubricant. Go around corners fast hard acceleration or braking can starve a pump briefly and cause heat and wear. Ive replaced plenty because of this.

None of the above. I know from this forum that my hybrid will do about 100 miles (depending of course) at 0 MTE so I usually fill up near that point. I like to see how far I can get on a tank. Always over 600 and the last one 703! Knowing the tank is really larger than specified and I have plenty of gas left, I don't worry about overheating the fuel pump. Besides this is a hybrid, the ice usually won't run long enough to overheat anything unless at high speed or in the mountains. Of course if I don't know where the next gas availability is, I might have to do it sooner for safety.

Usually 1/4 to 1/2 and I can remember when gas was .19/gal. LOL fill up on $5, most cars were 20-30 gal. tanks.
