To add to all the science in this thread, I’ve been changing my Ford turbo trucks at around 70,000 miles since 2015 and have not had any issues at all.
It's hard to follow. Changing oil at 70k or changing trucks at 70k with factory oil?

This will end into a 30 page thread if we talk about when to change your oil. The Minder thing is a joke BUT each to their own.

Edit: Another professions shows how changing oil is best yet people who have NEVER taken apart an engine say NO my cars have been great. LOL> I used to do it professionally too. I have taken apart over a 100 engines from lack of oil changes. Seen all the bad signs of lack of oil changes. BUT I know I will convince no one. Now I watch this thread go on and on. Oil gets dirty from blow by the rings. No newest rings still have blow by. Turbo engines even more as they have higher pressure in chamber. Now I watch the thread build.

My rule of thumb has been, 7500 miles or 6 months. Never had a problem, I have used M 1 forever. I’m retired now so my main concern is every 6 months since 7500 miles doesn’t seem to happen anymore.

I only had one oil change at the Ford dealer. About to do one before a long trip to So Cal. Any issues with non-dealer oil changes?

Just a reminder to change your ecoboost oil at 5k miles or less. Listen to this guy that deals with these everyday. So many people on here post about following the oil life monitor and that early oil changes are a waste of money. This Ecoboost blew up right outside of warranty because he was following the oil life monitor, thats all the Ford Engineers need it to do and thats why the oil life monitor calculates the way it does, to make maintenance costs appear low. Oil quality is everything for Turbocharged and VVT engines. Once these oil screens clog, you are screwed. Lets make these Maverick Ecoboosts hit 300k miles like he says is possible!!!
I've run extended oil changes to 7,500 and 10,000 miles on turbocharged engines with zero issues. 300K plus life out of the engines. Oil analysis data to support the oil change interval.

I'm confident there is more to the story than we are being told on this video. What type of oil and filter were used? What was the actual interval? Where were the oil changes performed?
Full synthetic oil at 7,500 miles would not create this degradation.

I once picked up a 5 year old Escape for $500. It had 51,000 miles on the factory fill before it started knocking.

Engine just out of warranty?
Clearly stated it has 224,000 miles. There may be extended service contracts for that mileage...but not a factory warranty.
And if you believe all customers that say they changed the oil when the oil monitor said to....
In my opinion that oil was changed at intervals well over 10,000 miles at least on occasion.
This is the kind of post that simply add disinformation and cause false claims about changing oil.

while I agree a turbo needs some cool down after running the Ike Gauntlet everyday runs to the store/work/school pose no danger to modern turbos.

The Ford IOLM system is not just a simple oil quality sensor, but a software based, algorithm-driven device that takes into account various operating conditions of the engine to determine when the oil needs changing. Certain driving habits can affect the life of the oil, as well as driving conditions such as temperature and driving terrain. Lighter, more moderate driving conditions and temperature will require less frequent oil changes and maintenance, while more severe driving conditions will require more frequent oil changes and maintenance. Read the table below to see how Ford’s IOLM system determines oil life:

Thinking Ford only cares about surviving the warranty period is bull. It's just as important not to have engines failing shortly after it expires, reputation matters. Under normal conditions I will schedule my full synthetic oil change as soon as the first reminder pops up.

I change my engine oil every 6000 km or sooner with synthetic. My friends say I am wasting money.
Your friends are idiots! Think of oil as the engines' blood. Think of the contaminants as cholesterol. Too much and boom! Your engine has a heart attack. Change the blood often and remove the cholesterol and no heart attack.

It was a bit confusing. one engine had 63000 miles, and the other had 224000. He was talking about the 63000 mile engine that was just out of warranty.

Been changing my oil every 3,000 with Castrol synthetic blend. Will switch to full synthetic after I do my first intake cleaning with seafoam spray. I will be using my oil life monitor as a reminder to clean the intake with some seafoam spray.

That may be. But that is not what the OP wrote to open this thread. The 63K engine was not given a failure reason. The V8 was a valve design issue. The 3.5 Ecoboost failed at 224,000 miles. Which is FAR out of warranty and many would write that off as an engine doing a good enough job. But even at that there is more to the story, such as appearance of inner engine and gunking of oil passages that tell me oil change intervals were well BEYOND recommended intervals.

FL400S threads on and has a larger capacity. I will be doing my first oil change this weekend and will using the aimsoil equivalent EA034

Optional for Focus ST / RS.

Here is a discussion on the Fiesta Forums where they mention utilizing a larger filter used on Mustangs with the 2.3L EcoBoost... Its fit is identical to the FL910S, FL400S. It's the WIX5156XP.

Might be something to look at provided you don't have a larger aftermarket intercooler taking up space.

Wow , how many miles does your truck have now?
I was just adding a little humor and sarcasm to a thread that will likely go on for days with a lot of conjecture.
Made myself laugh because a friend picks on me for getting a new truck because mine was due for service. 😀

Neither. Just making myself laugh, see above post.
