What should I do?

I took my Maverick in for a dash rattle it sounds like plastic scraping against other plastic around the driver side defroster vent. After they looked at it they said they would have to pull the dashboard out and I told them about the TSB 24 - 2317 which they seem to know nothing about. I couldn't talk them into doing it but I told him there's no way they were taking the dash out. The service rep said they had to diagnose the problem and the only way was to take dash out but the TSB just has a person slipping in some foam between the dash and the windshield through the glove box and and up through the driver's side after taking a shroud off of the steering column. I ask why do you have to take the dash out to do that. So I'm living with this noise that I can't find myself. Should I take it to another dealer and see what they say or will they give me the same run around.

Call up another dealer, bound to be one that knows what they're doing. I want to say the other rattle possibility are the pins used to align the windshield.

Go to another dealer. Bring copy of that TSB, present it. If they attempt fix per the TSB, and still rattles or knock, then maybe dash has to come out?

Need 3 attempts to repair before lemon laws applies in most states. Then Ford will look at vehicle again before it moves forward.

I think you'd have a hard time winning a lemon law suit over a rattle...if you try it, be sure the lawyer only gets paid if you win the case.

Definitely take it to another dealer. I had mine fixed back in November per the TSB. Dealer knew exactly what the TSB was and got it taken care of in about 4-5 hours and fixed that rattle sound.

Now, from the other end, I'd advise another lawyer not to touch the case with a ten foot pole unless fully paid up front!


Actually, I'd advise against taking it at all, given the sanctions for filing a frivolous case!

I had pop sickle sticks above my instrument display. Wedged under my dash.
It stopped the rattle and could not be seen unless your head was near the floorboard at the doors bottom, and you looked up.

Hummmmm.... If I wasn't 81 and had more spring in my getting up that sounds like a position that I would be in every morning when I saw my wonderful truck!

Rattles can be very annoying. Have you tried wedging in a slice of foam or other kind of soft flexible material between the dash and the windshield? There’s a YouTube video on how this fixed a Maverick rattle. Good luck.
