Got my 23 hybrid last week and while installing bed cover I noticed this in the left rear wheel well. I'm afraid to pull it completely off as it feels like it's attached to something. Does everyone have it or was it left my mistake at the factory? TIA

My Dad would say, check the owners manual because it might say something about it in there.

Always thought this kind of defeats the purpose of a locking fuel door.
Maybe could have put it in the bed cubby?
Like others have already mentioned it has more to do with the hybrid having a pressurized fuel tank not to keep people out.

The fuel door "lock" is so flimsy anyone with a flat head screw driver or pry bar could gain access in just a few seconds if they really wanted to.

Or drill a hole in the gas tank, to bypass anti-siphon device in filler neck. If they want the gas, they're gonna find a way to steal it. Fortunately, gas tank fuel theft is mostly non-existent where I live.

I didn't know it was there until my 6 year old grandson pulled it and asked "what's this do?" about the time the fuel door opened. I immediately said knowingly "that's the fuel door release". If I was as tall/short as 6 year old I may have noticed it much sooner. Kids are wonderful, they're not afraid to push buttons, throw switches or pull cables at all whether they know what it does or not.

So true.
