Your lawyer is getting a free lunch.
I’m not sure what you mean by that, but I ******* dare Ford to come after me. I dare them to prove I said or did anything that was not directly influenced by the actual behavior of my vehicle and the actual statements made by Ford Employees, in recorded conversations, on the record. I dare them to come after a private citizen who’s merely sharing his actual experience with his defective Ford.

There’s nothing fraudulent going on here. I’m stating facts. It is of my opinion that my Ford Maverick was a fire hazard. Ford employees agreed.

End of story.

And if I am worried that other people’s Mavericks might be fire hazards too, I have every right to use my story and my documentation as supporting evidence in holding Ford accountable.

Ford is a lumbering bureaucratic beast— I am a nimble social-media savvy person with a strong moral compass, a good smile, better-than-good counsel, and a sharp tongue. Ford will not want to go to the mat with me. All the more reason to make noise about a real issue (or at least it’s a real issue in my mind).

I don’t mean to hijack this thread, but I’m totally willing to engage in constructive dialogue about the best way to approach dealing with this defect. This goes beyond a bad wheel bearing or a loose piece of trim. I’m making a stink because I believe lives are at risk. If Ford’s own employees are trying to raise red flags and they’re telling me they’re getting shut down, what does that tell you?

Ford's not coming for you, and your lawyer (If he exists) knows it. He's soaking you for cash.
He’s providing pro-bono advice. It’s a lemon law office in Connecticut and he’s on stand-by. Solid fella. If Ford comes for me, he’ll get paid by Ford. If I’ve blown it already saying what I’ve said, then Ford can come after me and put me in the poor house. I’ll turn around and use social media to solicit donations for legal fees.

I’m not in the wrong.

Burning plastic.
Rotten eggs so strong it burns the nostrils.
Surging engine.
Orange-hot cat wafting heat from 5-feet out.
Ford employees and techs concurring it’s a risk/hazard.
Ford employees admitting they were getting shut down.

And an official Ford statement contradicting those employees.

Neither I nor the lawyer is losing sleep over my exposure. Which is to say, I agree with you— Ford’s not coming after me. Carvana isn’t coming after me— but I’m coming after Ford. If you were in my shoes you wouldn’t sleep if you felt like you had information that could potentially save a life.

I’m not saying that even a single Maverick will ever catch fire because of this defect— I’m saying the risk seems more than high enough for me to assume it could happen, and that if I can help push Ford to address this in a more coherent manner, then great.

Maybe I simply spoke to a dozen or so Ford employees who are experiencing some sort of mass hysteria and we’re all deluded — maybe a glowing hot cat belching out noxious fumes is totally safe. I hope that’s the case. I’d much rather be wrong about all of this than find out down the road I was right.

TSB does not mean recall— people won’t know about this problem until it happens to them.

Have you guys read the other threads on this forum documenting this problem? Am I the only person approaching this from a public-safety angle?

Honest questions.

I’m guessing you ordered it…waited your 7-8 months…bought it…then your wife didn’t like it…y’all argued a bit…she won and you sold it…now you real bitter.

if not, you wanting Ford to hand you $100,000 or another Maverick that your wife’s not gonna like?

Maybe, maybe not. But if you do actually have a lawyer, he probably wishes you would shut up until Ford takes action. You are doing nothing to help yourself at this point and more than likely causing major harm to yourself by any case brought against you or by you.

Having been in legal altercations before, the less said (especially on a public freaking forum) the better.

You’re probably right about all of that.

But ā€œuntil Ford takes actionā€ is the crux of this.

When does that happen? When Mavericks are on fire? When enough complaints get to the NHTSA and triggers an investigation?

I guess that’s worked in the past, kind of, not really—

It’s a grim equation: how many people need to get hurt or how much property needs to get damaged before the Feds raise an eyebrow and push the company to escalate their fix?

It’s awful. And in the 2022, where social media is more powerful than TV, magazines, newspapers, and radio combined, there are other avenues to pursue justice and share information.

I’m not looking at this as a legal crusade— it’s an ad campaign. I bought a seemingly dangerous product and was rebuffed by the manufacturer. The employees were rebuffed by their higher-ups, and it’s clear the defect is not a one-off problem— it’s a large enough problem for Ford to have taken notice.

But do you really think they’re going to issue a voluntary recall unless someone holds their feet to the fire?

I appreciate your input. You def seem to be thinking it through— and I’m thankful. It means you’re considering what Im saying. But I won’t post more on here until I’m further along in my ā€œcrusadeā€ to make sure this defect is taken as seriously as I think it should.

Trust me, I’d much rather be hiking, working in my studio, putting in extra hours at work, spending quality time with loved ones, or vegging in front of the TV. I didn’t ask to buy a defective vehicle— and I didn’t insist Ford handle it in the most incompetent way I could have imagined. When you hear a Ford corporate supervisor say, ā€œOhhhhh… that’s really bad— yikesā€, it’s kind of hard to let it slide.

We’re out of lemon law territory and into whistleblower territory.
Whistleblower?

You keep using that word, I do not think it means what you think it means.

Sincerely,

Inigo Montoya :devilish:

----------

Seriously, if you said you had a whistleblower who would come forward on this issue ... well, I missed it.

But that could be as you have clearly won the award for Most Column Inches in a Single Thread.:sneaky:

(You are also in the running for Best Use of Paragraphing and Whitespace but the judges are still out.)

(sorry for the diatribe, but this isn’t a game)
You sir, have told it like it is,, someone's gonna die sooner or later. This massive 2000 plus heat in the engine bay of an internal combustion engine is scary,, and no doubt, someone's garage and house is gonna catch fire, and people will die.I've made this statement before,, some one give me an example of this ever happening before in ANY model car, lepl yk
Did you read anything I wrote?
(please let me restate that)

Please reread what I wrote and put yourself in my shoes.

EVERY FORD EMPLOYEE told me it was a legitimate hazard, and that I shouldn’t operate it normally.

Ford then issues a statement that contradicts that.

Then I ask my service department, three different corporate customer service reps, and the field technician for clarification—

And then they turn around and contradict Ford’s statement that the vehicle can be operated normally, with no precautions.

So again, how is that fraud? That’s just what happened.

Forgive my exasperated tone. I’m gonna try and be cool. Forgive me… but, let me get a little dramatic…

Am I supposed to trust the official statement, which by the way, is not readily available anywhere unless you sought it out?

In my not so humble opinion, that’s not a well-addressed situation.

Call it fraud if you want— but I kindly disagree with your assessment. Maybe I’m wrong, but I’m having a hard time imagining what someone else would do in my situation. My face was bathed in the uncontrolled heat of my catalytic converter. It was my nostrils burning from the stench of burning plastic and rotten eggs. It was my own Service Manager who told me that she wouldn’t drive the car either.

The legal actions I am considering pursuing right now are for ā€œwhistleblowersā€, not disgruntled customers.

I’m not convinced this issue is ok. How in the good-G*d’s earth is this resolved? There are potentially hundreds or thousands of these Mavericks with this same issue. Every Ford employee tells me it’s a problem.

This is not about me— this about every unsuspecting, unknowing Ford Maverick owner who will NEVER be contacted by Ford to fix this issue unless they have the same problem.
If I had ran into my friend’s house that night I parked the car with the engine on and I got sidetracked for 10 or 15 minutes inside, I have NO DOUBT my Maverick would have caught on fire or melted itself into a lifeless brick.

Sorry, not sorry.
What really gets me is, folks DEFENDING FORD, or ANY manufacture, trying to make the guy that just got f#%ked, the bad guy, telling him where the bear shit in the woods, reading you the riot act, putting any liability on YOUR shoulders, telling you that you should be the bigger person and take a 27K screwing, and live with this pile of crap. Why doesnt one of these hero's step up and buy it from you, or trade there's for yours?? Trying to make SPRUCE DUCK this terrible bad guy,, what the hell is wrong here. I guess key boards work kinda like booze,, SPRUCE DUCK,, I'm with ya,, and yup, lets wait and see how the public, and those on here justifying this dangerous condition, react when an innocent family with kids die in a fire caused by this. That potential is defiantly there, Stay tuned, unfortunally, it may be coming. Flame on!!!

If mine did this I would park it a under security camera and let it burn. Come back to a burned down Maverick. Oops!šŸ˜Ž Ford kind of has to admit safety fault after that. The entire video will happen to find it way to YouTube. Oops again

lepl yk?

Any translation available for the slang-impaired?

I tried abbreviations.com but all I got was:

"Law Enforcement Professional Liability" "Yukon Kuskokwim" -- Didn't seem to fit the sentence.
