I personally turn and look. When I think the camera should see something it doesn’t. When there is something that would be visible to a visually impaired person it works fine. What would really be nice is if the camera had better perifial vision. There are times when I come close because I couldn’t see and the truck didn’t seem to see the bicycle
I also added those "blind spot" mirrors..
Which have saved my ass many a time over the years...

Doesn't affect Lariat, they should have made Sync3 standard in all trim levels IMO instead of relying on outdated and underpowered hardware for the XL / XLT versions.
I have the '22 "base" Lariat and it is included in the recall (no Sync 3). That said, I have experienced no issues with the camera to date.

Is that what happened? It doesn't affect all XLs and XLTs either, so did they change the hardware for those trim levels in 2024?
Pure speculation that the hardware is blanking due to poor resource management on underpowered hardware (along with the bluetooth drop-outs, screen freezes, etc.), but reasonable given the low-budget nature of the Mav and the fact that Sync3 equipped models are not having the issue.

Thought it was all XL/XLTs from 22-24. Would not surprise me if Ford incrementally updated either camera or infotainment hardware *just enough* in 2024 to not have the issue. Ford's website does not list Sync3 on the 2024 XLT, Lariat only.

It only affects Mavericks built prior to 11/29/23, leaving 11 months of 2024 production unaffected. Correct, 2024 XL and XLT don't have Sync 3. So, it seems to me that there's not a direct link between a lack of Sync 3 and underpowered hardware causing freezes.

I agree that it was likely a hardware change that fixed the issue, but I can't blame a lack of Sync 3. If it was fixed with a software change, the recall would already be resolved.

"This problem reportedly impacts 144,516 2022-2024 Ford Maverick pickups, built at the Hermosillo Assembly Plant in Mexico between February 3, 2021 and November 28, 2023."

I completed six recalls from the first run on 2023 Hybrid Mav. Just received two new ones. Wiper motor could get water logged and malfunction. Back up camera can "freeze" and create an illusion the rear is safe when camera is frozen. Guess will need to call in another mobile recall diagnosis soon. At this point, wondering if I should wait until I collect 5 before getting it done. It is like collecting recycling cans. Should I collect more before turning it in and wasting a trip?
Hold up, wiper motor could get water logged and malfunction? Dou you happen to have the TSB? Since new I've had problems with mine getting kinda stuck and thumping around only during rainfall, and complaining every time to the service department of my dealer lol. This might finally make me feel validated lol.

Recall 24V594000 for select wiper motors possibly assembled without a seal in the wiper motor causing it to fail. It doesn't affect 2022's.

I was told by a car salesman once to always drive into a spot. He said you should never back into a spot. His reasoning was all the expensive stuff is at the front end of the vehicle. If someone backs into you in a parking lot, you’re more likely just to lose a bumper instead of your radiator and everything else under the hood. Personally I can see advantages to both ways.
I always try to park where nothing can hit my front end. Someone backed into me in a parking lot and messed up my front bumper (luckily it was only the paint). If someone wants to back into me, I'd rather it be my back end.

So those of you who don't use the camera but only use the mirrors aren't going to get the recall done? 🥴
I have been using mirrors for 50 years and learned to use them well. Never hit anything.
But is sure is nice to have a Camera to Back You Up to make sure!

That's exactly what I am asking also!
What is the exact cause of this backup camera problem, software really?

I have read that they used a slower CPU in the XL and XLT and is that the reason?

I have a 2022 Hybrid Lariat and have had no problems whatsover with my backup camera.

Is it just the 2022 Lariat that works OK, vs the XL and XLT because they cheaped out on the electronics also?

If they do have a software update, I probably won't do it because mine works perfectly fine and may not after the FORD Software Updates. It also depends on the Tech being able to perform the updates properly.

No confidence with the new techs at FORD, since the older specialzed techs are retired and there is no local old school person to mentor any of these young techs properly, they completely rely on calling for help from their Ford Tech Support.

I have a 2022 Hybrid and have never had a problem with the Backup Camera, ever.
Is this something that is more recent than the 2022?
MIkes, I have a 2024 XLT Hybrid I picked up in September. My back up screen doesn't go "blank" when it's already there...but there is a delay for it to pop up when you put it in reverse. My F250's pops up like a snap....this one has a delay where you have to actually "almost" have to wait until it appears to use it to view behind you....with the camera that is. Just a bit irritating going back and forth where one Ford has a delay and the other is lightning fast. Hope that makes sense.

Lariats with the Sync 3 system aren't affected. The connected touch radio-equipped XL/XLT/non-lux Lariat have completely different hardware and software.

I'm a new owner in general, so this is new to me. Mine is a '24, and so far I've experienced no issues. Also, there's a difference between the Lariat and lower two models, so this may only apply to one OS or the other.

I'm going to wait until the wiper motor repair is ready before getting the tail lamps recall done. My PA inspection is due in Jan, so hopefully it'll be ready by then. Got the Sync one as well, but already have it in my Lariat.
