Never drove the older version of the 2.0, but the 2025 version seems pretty quiet to me overall. At certain RPMs during acceleration I can hear the turbo. To me it sounds like ssssssssssssss lol. Best way I can describe it.
That must be the turbo spooling up - right behind the firewall. Good ears!

That red hot beast is designed to drop to the ground instead of your lap during a head on collision. The EB engine is really a modern engineering marvel on so many levels. Hybrid engine too/more so.

There is also a blow-off sound that turbos used to make that some people are nostalgic for and so they do weird things to theirs to make to make it do that now.
As you lift off the throttle, the Maverick EB’s bypass valve quietly & efficiently transfers the high pressure air back into the turbo’s input. No more whoosh into atmosphere.

I think I can hear the turbo of a big rig also - must be a lower frequency due to their bigger sized turbos I’m guessing.

I hear many folks gush over the sound of the EB turbo - but I’m not sure I hear it. Not complaining, just curious as to what they are hearing.

Are they hearing the turbo spooling up during acceleration?
When lifting off the throttle - the excess pressure routes back to the turbo inlet - which I understand is quiet. Not the whoosh of a blow off to atmosphere.

But I’m thinking the turbo sound that folks are hearing is too high a frequency for my old ears to hear? I stop hearing above 9,000hz…

I never hear the turbo.i think it's to small at less than 40mm.

You hear the turbo the most around the 2400 to 4000 rpm range if you slowly throttle up. With windows up i assume the sound generator enhances the sound a bit more but you can hear it whistle with the right pedal modulation.

So funny thing chops I actually hear the turbo spooling when im building boost in launch control, sounds insane tbh. Also if i rev to like 4k and predict the shift right i get a decently load whoosh. No BOV, no intake I checked lol.

I can barely hear up to 8000 Hz - I’m old:)
Turbo sound is high frequency beyond my hearing? Going to install a Boomba BOV soon on my 25 EB - but I doubt I’ll hear that either:(

The lifetime fluid in your ear canals are like the lifetime fluid in a transmission - they naturally degrade over time.

Too bad I can’t change my ear fluid to hear like a younger man can. Only the Bill Gates etc gang are doing that kind of stuff 😬

Mine sounds like an Aztec Death whistle. Pretty sure I have boost leak somewhere, or impending turbo failure. No engine light, power seems okay, and it runs smooth as it should. Under hard acceleration, it makes the death whistle noise. its not loud, but its there,. It is not the typical EB spooling noise and it sounds like it has some fluttering to it.

Putting it back to stock for now so the dealer cannot blame it on something ridiculous. I'm sure they wont be able to replicate, so ill take it in to have it noted and then wait for a failure/CEL to happen.

The spooling up sound, was more pronounced in my 1985 Ranger. (Gave it a 2.3 L T-Bird motor. Back in the early 1990's).

I can hear the 2.0L's a little.... But, the smell is still the same... 🤗

What does bringing it back to stock entail?

I’m going to install a BOV to make my turbo last longer - but I would even take that off before bringing it to dealer for turbo evaluation;)

That is what i just removed and put the stock unit back on. TurboSmart Kompact Dual Port.

Some Dumb Dumb lost 1 of my stock bolts.... So I just used the Turbo smart bolts. Fits like it should. Either way, maybe they wont notice.

I'm old too chops, worked in manufacturing most of my adult life, hearing protection only goes so far.

There are times I can hear my turbos and others I can't, same goes for my intake, and BOV. Usually when I have a cement barrier to my left, the windows go down and the foot gets really heavy, just so I can feel young again lol
