Trailer brake programming Recall 22S17

Thanks for the link. We just entered our VIN and it looks like we need to take to the dealer to get this corrected.

EDIT: We just logged into our Ford account and it shows the recall there to. We haven't tried the app yet but IMO it's moot at this point. Looks like a trip to the dealer is in order.

I got the same thing. I'm sure glad this is something that can be fixed with a "reprogram". Minor recall, all things considered. Glad it's not something they will hold our vehicle for if we come in for service.

Mine is on it's way not supposed to be to the dealer till the week of April 18th wonder if mine will be involved.

Safety Risk LOSS OF TRAILER BRAKE FUNCTIONALITY COULD RESULT IN EXTENDED STOPPING DISTANCE, INCREASING THE RISK OF A CRASH.

Remedy OWNERS WILL BE NOTIFIED BY MAIL AND INSTRUCTED TO TAKE THEIR VEHICLE TO A FORD OR LINCOLN DEALER TO HAVE THE INTEGRATED TRAILER BRAKE CONTROL MODULE SOFTWARE UPDATED. THERE WILL BE NO CHARGE FOR THIS SERVICE. FORD IS EXCLUDING REIMBURSEMENT FOR COSTS BECAUSE THE ORIGINAL WARRANTY PROGRAM WOULD PROVIDE FOR A FREE REPAIR FOR THIS CONCERN. FORD WILL FORWARD A COPY OF THE NOTIFICATION LETTERS TO DEALERS TO THE AGENCY WHEN AVAILABLE.

A software error can stop trailers from braking, increasing the risk of a crash.

So there I was just this afternoon hooking up my travel trailer which has been in hibernation for the winter, got it plugged in and start trying to figure out the brake controller, nothing coming up on the display, drove it down the road a short distance, used the slider, cool, works OK, try to set my gain, press buttons, nothing. nada. Nothing showing up on the screen, search through menus, nothing. WTF? Check our favorite forum and hey presto here I am learning about this BS. Just ran my VIN through the recall section on Ford website and yep, on the list. Disappointed to say the least, we have several camping trips booked so hopefully this is a simple software update.

Edit: forgot to mention that I also called our Ford dealer who know absolutely nothing about this truck so were no help whatsoever, their only response was "have you read the manual"? yes I read the flippin' manual!

Where did you check the vin? Do you have a link for it? Thank you.

Log into your ford pass account. If your vin is affected it will show. Mine was produced on 9/21/21 and it's on recall.

I spoke to my dealer about this today bc my truck is going in tomorrow for the fuel tank recall. They said they would not be able to perform the trailer brake recall service until around mid April

That doesnt sound right, i had mine done the first day I noticed it on fordpass and they had it done within an hour. Unless its a point if them being too busy

Based on the dates people are listing so far from 10/4 to 3/13 sounds like it was probably everyone built with 4k package just prior to the recall date. I'm gonna hold off for awhile since I'm not towing anyway maybe they will find a solution for the rattle noise near windshields so I can have that fixed at the same time.

Yah it's not related to the trailer recall but will likely have at least a TSB for it as some point. There is a long thread with people with the rattle some have had windshields swapped others have had dash pulled out.

They must have fixed this at the factory, my Maverick was just produced a couple of weeks ago and it's not part of the recall

Here’s the service notes my dealer logged for it while it was there for the other recall. May not mean anything since my dealer’s service department is operated by barely functioning idiots.
